I’ve recently stumbled across [name_f]Angelou[/name_f] as a given name and I kinda love it! What do people think about this name?
I like that it comes built in with cute nicknames [name_u]Angie[/name_u] or [name_f]Lulu[/name_f], and although I am a fan of [name_f]Maya[/name_f] [name_f]Angelou[/name_f] I do worry that the associations are a little strong. Also, would it ‘go’ with the other names in my signature?
Thanks!
I immediately think “Like [name_f]Maya[/name_f] [name_f]Angelou[/name_f]?”, but again, that’s not a bad association at all. I like this name and I think it can totally work (nicknames [name_u]Angie[/name_u] and [name_f]Lulu[/name_f] are super cute!), but personally I prefer it as a middle.
I like [name_f]Angelou[/name_f] too. I have it on my GPs/potential middles list because, though I admire [name_f]Maya[/name_f] [name_f]Angelou[/name_f] a lot, I can’t pretend to be an avid reader of her work so to “honour” her so clearly would feel a bit weird to me.
However, you don’t have to think like that - it’s a very pretty, unusual name, with a strong, talented, feminist namesake and some adorable nickname options. I’m not sure it completely fits with the other first names in your signature, but nor is it a blatant clash by any means. I think you could definitely use it in the middle and it would fit right in with your other combos.
Thanks for the feedback ladies! [name_f]Glad[/name_f] it doesn’t seem completely crazy!
Bumping this to see if anyone else has any thoughts!
I mean, it will always be associated with [name_f]Maya[/name_f] [name_f]Angelou[/name_f], but that isn’t a bad thing necessarily. It’s not really my style, but I think it could work as a first name. I like the cute nicknames!
I would assume that your daughter was named after the poet and that you were a superfan. It might be a bit awkward for her to constantly be responding to “Your parents must really [name_u]LOVE[/name_u] [name_f]Maya[/name_f]!” with “Not really…they just sort of liked the name…”
Thanks for the feedback everyone. Somehow I feel like I’m a big enough fan of [name_f]Maya[/name_f] [name_f]Angelou[/name_f] to not make it weird but I do question whether it could hold its own as a name- maybe if there was a little [name_f]Angelou[/name_f] in the world it woukd become uniquely hers!
I would use it as a middle name.
I think it suggests that you love [name_f]Maya[/name_f] [name_f]Angelou[/name_f] … the association is very strong. You could break it up somehow - What about [name_f]Louisa[/name_f] [name_f]May[/name_f]?
