Thoughts on animal baby names?

I didn’t used to like animal names. But now I’m loving names like [name_u]Wolf[/name_u], [name_m]Bear[/name_m], [name_u]Fox[/name_u], [name_u]Wren[/name_u], [name_m]Colt[/name_m], and [name_u]Lark[/name_u]. What do you guys think of these kinds of names? [name_f]Do[/name_f] you think they work as first names or only middle names? [name_f]Do[/name_f] you have another names like this that you like?

I wouldn’t personally use them, but maybe if I had some sort of reason to do it, I could see it. But then, only in a middle name, unless there was some extremely awesome animal name I haven’t heard of yet. [name_m]Colt[/name_m] is my fave of the list you gave, because I could see it as a nickname. Actually, that’s where I like these names best. [name_u]Lark[/name_u] is pretty but I wouldn’t say it’s my favorite.

They are more guilty pleasures for me. I love [name_u]Wren[/name_u] and [name_u]Lark[/name_u] for girls, and [name_u]Fox[/name_u] and [name_m]Bear[/name_m] are so cool for boys…but I could never imagine actually using them. They could definitely work well as middle names or nicknames. Or even as first names, sure! [name_m]Just[/name_m] not for me personally.

Yeah they’re kind of guilty pleasures for me to. Although I think [name_u]Wren[/name_u] is usable probably because it’s getting so popular. [name_f]My[/name_f] cousin is named [name_u]Larkin[/name_u] and I know of 3 people named [name_m]Bear[/name_m].

I think they’re definitely usable! Word names seem to be on the rise so I don’t think they would stick out at all. I actually know a [name_m]Bear[/name_m] who’s my age. He fits his name perfectly- he was a linebacker for his high school football team.

I really like all of those names! I think the most usable (not too out there) from that list are [name_m]Colt[/name_m] and [name_u]Wren[/name_u].

Other names like those:
[name_u]Lynx[/name_u]
[name_u]Jay[/name_u]
[name_u]Dane[/name_u] (like the dog breed Great [name_u]Dane[/name_u])
[name_f]Fawn[/name_f]
[name_m]Newt[/name_m]
[name_f]Otter[/name_f]
Owl

[name_u]Finch[/name_u]
[name_u]Raven[/name_u]
[name_u]Bird[/name_u]/Birdie
[name_f]Bee[/name_f]
[name_m]Tiger[/name_m]
[name_u]Kit[/name_u] (baby fox)
Elk
[name_m]Drake[/name_m] (male duck)
[name_m]Pike[/name_m] (type of fish)
[name_m]Orson[/name_m] ([name_m]Bear[/name_m] cub)
[name_f]Sable[/name_f]
[name_f]Puma[/name_f]

Yes to [name_u]Kit[/name_u], [name_f]Bee[/name_f] and [name_u]Dane[/name_u]. Especially as nicknames for [name_u]Kit[/name_u] and [name_f]Bee[/name_f], but [name_u]Dane[/name_u], that could be a first name.

I love them as middles! I personally wouldn’t be [name_u]Brave[/name_u] enough to use them in the first spot.

Love 'em!

I prefer them as middles, unless we’re talking about [name_u]Peregrine[/name_u], [name_u]Larkin[/name_u], [name_f]Birdie[/name_f], [name_u]Raven[/name_u], [name_u]Robin[/name_u], or [name_u]Sparrow[/name_u].

I love them!! they’re some of my favorite names. I used to think they were only gps or usable as middles, but lately I think animal/nature/word names have become more popular. I don’t think it’d be too out of the ordinary to use them as firsts! [name_f]My[/name_f] favorites from your list are [name_u]Wren[/name_u], [name_u]Fox[/name_u], [name_u]Lark[/name_u], & [name_u]Wolf[/name_u]! I love so many of them though, I think if I listed them it’d go on forever haha :slightly_smiling_face:

I’ve seen every single on of those used as a first name, so I think it’s fine. [name_u]Wren[/name_u], [name_u]Lark[/name_u], [name_f]Bee[/name_f], and [name_f]Birdie[/name_f] are my favourites that I can think of, but there might be more.

I don’t tend to love animal names, but I do have a soft spot for [name_f]Bee[/name_f], [name_u]Kit[/name_u], [name_u]Fox[/name_u], [name_u]Wren[/name_u] and [name_u]Lark[/name_u]. I think they are beautiful!

I am a huge fan of word and nature names, so this category is right up my alley! I think they’re absolutely usable as first names. [name_f]My[/name_f] one suggestion would be to pair them with a more “traditional” name in the middle, because two word names back-to-back comes off as hardcore hippie - unless that’s the aesthetic you’re going for.

I love animal names!! I would consider them as middle names or nicknames. I’m not brave enough to use them as middle names. [name_u]Wolf[/name_u], [name_u]Falcon[/name_u], [name_m]Bear[/name_m], [name_u]Dove[/name_u], [name_u]Sparrow[/name_u], [name_u]Lynx[/name_u], [name_m]Lion[/name_m], [name_f]Koala[/name_f], [name_f]Butterfly[/name_f], [name_u]Nightingale[/name_u], [name_u]Robin[/name_u], [name_u]Lark[/name_u], [name_f]Fawn[/name_f] and [name_m]Hawk[/name_m] are some of my favorites. I think animal names are exotic, cool and powerful.

I really love some animal names! I’m afraid there are only a few I’d be brave enough to use as firsts, but there are lots more that I’d readily use as nicknames or middles. From your list, I think [name_u]Wren[/name_u], [name_u]Lark[/name_u], and [name_m]Colt[/name_m] work especially well as first names. Really though, I can see any of them being wearable–they’re just a little out of my personal comfort zone. I would happily use any of them as middles! [name_f]Bee[/name_f], [name_u]Kit[/name_u], and [name_u]Sparrow[/name_u] have already been mentioned and are some of my favorites. I’d likely use [name_f]Bee[/name_f] and [name_u]Kit[/name_u] as nicknames (or middles!) and [name_u]Sparrow[/name_u] as a middle (though I can see it working as a first).

I like [name_u]Fox[/name_u], [name_u]Kit[/name_u], [name_u]Lynx[/name_u], and [name_m]Hawk[/name_m]. [name_f]My[/name_f] favorite is [name_m]Fennec[/name_m] (nn [name_u]Fen[/name_u]/Fenn), like the fox.

Love this topic!

I absolutely love nature names! First it middle would be your choice. Personally I would go first name - I’m sure they would be very much their own person!

I also really like [name_u]Bay[/name_u] which I don’t think has previously been mentioned.
