I think areola from [name_f]Ariella[/name_f] more than [name_f]Aurelia[/name_f]. The U breaks up the word association for me. I like [name_f]Aurelia[/name_f] a lot.
As for teasing - I think almost any name can be joked about if kids want to! And most of them probably don’t know the word areola - so I wouldn’t worry.
Wasn’t a huge fan but it’s so popular on NB, it’s been growing on me. Naturally, I’d say uh-REE-lia but I think most commonly, I’ve seen others say aw-RAY-lia so that pronunciation pops into my head pretty quickly too.
I’ve never associated [name_f]Aurelia[/name_f] with areola and even after you point it out, I don’t think it would stick, so personally I don’t think this is too big of a problem.
I think it’s beautiful! I wouldn’t worry about Arellano teasing, I feel like most name teasing happens in elementary school (if it happens at all these days, there is such a wide variation of names nowadays!) and most elementary aged kiddos probably wouldn’t know that word.
[name_f]My[/name_f] biggest concern would be pronunciation variations, aw-ree-Lee-uh, aw-Ray-Lee-uh and aw-reh-lee-uh all seem to be fairly common accepted pronunciations that kind of depend on your language/location.
I love [name_f]Aurelia[/name_f]! Such a beautiful, golden name!!
I’ve met two little Aurelias -one who pn it or-ray-lee-uh and the other who pn it or-reel-ee-uh. I personally prefer and instinctively use the ray pn but the other is nice too.
Neither seemed to have problems with the name and though it is similiar to areola kind of, I’m not sure that word is on the tip of everyone’s tongue, so i dont think it should be a huge issue
I love [name_f]Aurelia[/name_f] too but the pronunciation is difficult. I say it like the original latin and many European languages “OW-reh-lee-ah” but in [name_f]English[/name_f] it’s “au-REE-lee-ah”. But if you can settle on the pronunciation and it feels natural in the country you live in, it’ll be fine. It’s a beautiful name with a lot of character.
I doubt kids would even make the areola connection
Personally I don’t think the name sounds like areola I think the u sound breaks that up nicely. I pronounce the name aw RAY lee uh but then I think it does change depending on your language as other berries have commented.
I think [name_f]Aurelia[/name_f] is beautiful! I actually have never associated the name with areola, but I cam understand why that is a concern. I don’t think it’s close enough to not consider using [name_f]Aurelia[/name_f]. Though I know there are probably a few common pronunciations for this name. I pronounce it like aw-RAY-lee-uh.
Never thought of areola. The sounds are different, but if you want another option, [name_f]Auralia[/name_f] is beautiful too a-ray-lee-uh instead of a-ree-lee-uh
I absolutely love this name! I thinks it’s so melodious and pretty. I personally pronounce it as
au-RAY-lee-uh, and I don’t think it would be the hardest to pronounce even if you do say it slightly different. And areola was not my first association when thinking of the name, and I doubt there would be any teasing potential with that. Regardless I am definitely for using the name!
[name_u]Love[/name_u] it! Slightly love [name_f]Aurelie[/name_f] more which could be a suggestion if you’re worried about teasing BUT as everyone above has stated there really is no likelihood of that
I don’t think they will be. I had to actually look up what areola means, because I didn’t know, so I don’t think kids would. [name_f]Aurelia[/name_f] works well, and I like it a lot.
I didn’t realize there were so many pronunciations, I’ve only ever heard it as aw-ray-lia or Aw-rale-ya. I used to have [name_f]Aurelia[/name_f] on my list until my SO pointed out it sounds like “I’ll rail ya” and I can’t unhear it since unfortunately.
