Thoughts on ayrton?

I just confirmed that I will be welcoming a second son. 1st son is named [name_u]Declan[/name_u] [name_u]John[/name_u].
We are considering [name_m]Ayrton[/name_m] [name_u]James[/name_u].
[name_u]James[/name_u] is my hubby’s name.

The other name we are in agreement on is [name_m]Hamish[/name_m]. Again named after my hubby. Scottish version of [name_u]James[/name_u].

[name_m]Just[/name_m] wondering what everyones thoughts are on these names?

TIA

[name_m]Ayrton[/name_m] is so cool - love the sounds  It reminds me of a fave of mine, Hareton  but it’s very distinctive and interesting.

[name_m]Hamish[/name_m] is excellent too - rugged, charming and fun

I love [name_m]Hamish[/name_m]! I think it’s cool and handsome, friendly-sounding and really lovely with [name_u]Declan[/name_u]! [name_m]Ayrton[/name_m] is okay, but I don’t love it. I feel like it would get misspelled a lot and I think the nicknames are a bit awkward (Air and [name_u]Tony[/name_u]? Ertie?)

Are you an [name_m]Ayrton[/name_m] [name_u]Senna[/name_u] fan? That was my first impression.
Stylistically I don’t think it quite goes with [name_u]Declan[/name_u], whereas [name_m]Hamish[/name_m] does

I also immediately assume an Aryton [name_u]Senna[/name_u] fan

Much prefer [name_m]Hamish[/name_m].

I like [name_m]Ayrton[/name_m] a lot! I think it’s stylish and on trend right now (especially since [name_f]Kylie[/name_f] [name_m]Jenner[/name_m] announced her son’s name). I’ve never heard of [name_m]Ayrton[/name_m] [name_u]Senna[/name_u], and when I looked it up it seems he died in 1994 so it’s not a currently relevant association that many people would know.
I’m not a fan of [name_m]Hamish[/name_m]. I don’t have a good reason, I just don’t like the sounds.

I hadn’t ever heard of [name_m]Ayrton[/name_m]. I feel like the spelling [name_m]Airton[/name_m] makes the pronunciation more obvious but thats not a big deal. I can see the appeal of the Y. I really like it. [name_m]Hamish[/name_m] is just too hammy for me.

[name_m]Hamish[/name_m] is wonderful (though is it a different form of James?).
I don’t take to [name_m]Ayrton[/name_m], but it’s OK.

I love [name_m]Hamish[/name_m], and agree that it is wonderful with [name_u]Declan[/name_u]. I think [name_m]Ayrton[/name_m] also works with [name_u]Declan[/name_u], but I‘d agree that [name_m]Ayrton[/name_m] [name_u]Senna[/name_u] springs to mind immediately (Not a bad thing, just in case that bothers you).

Congratulations on boy #2!

[name_m]Ayrton[/name_m] is cool. I know one (he was named after Senna) and it really suits him. To be honest, I would probably assume you were F1 fans, but it is a good name in its own right. Funnily enough I also know a [name_m]Jenson[/name_m] named after Button lol.

[name_m]Hamish[/name_m] is a good, solid name. [name_f]My[/name_f] partner is Scottish so we know a few, but I still find it charming. [name_f]Do[/name_f] you know what middle you would use with [name_m]Hamish[/name_m]? Assuming you would not do [name_m]Hamish[/name_m] [name_u]James[/name_u]! :joy:

[name_f]My[/name_f] husband is lol

No thats where we are finding it challenging. [name_m]Hamish[/name_m] is a great name, but the middle name struggle is real.

So tricky.

I personally am leaning towards [name_m]Hamish[/name_m] more so.

I’d love to use Aidan… but hubby vetoed it due to popularity and the fact that he’s a manager and has had many Aiden’s. Some not good associations. Too bad because its a really nice name for a boy/man.

Without going to look it up…. I’m unsure how to even pronounce it. Im torn between Air-ton or Ire-ton. Visually i do like it with [name_u]Declan[/name_u] more then [name_m]Hamish[/name_m] with [name_u]Declan[/name_u].

ayrton is lovely! rugged, gentle, and folksy. however, i have to say that hamish is my favorite for you. it pairs wonderfully with declan, and the nod to your husband’s name is adorable! :teddy_bear:

if you’re still struggling with middle names for hamish…

hamish jude
hamish william
hamish beau
hamish finnian
hamish ezra
hamish oliver
hamish axel

i hope this helps! :canoe:

I think it’s a nice name. Unusual. I do immediately connect it to [name_m]Ayrton[/name_m] [name_u]Senna[/name_u] but it’s not a negative association.

I actually really like [name_m]Ayrton[/name_m], and I even know one! It is very unexpected and cool. I do think pronunciation can be a little unclear at first look, but I wouldn’t say that’s a dealbreaker. I much prefer [name_m]Ayrton[/name_m] over [name_m]Hamish[/name_m], but it’s solely a personal preference. I dislike the look of [name_m]Hamish[/name_m].

[name_m]Ayrton[/name_m] is one of my favourite names!!! I’m very excited to see someone else talk about it, let alone consider it for their child! [name_m]Ayrton[/name_m] [name_u]James[/name_u] is lovely as well, handsome but with an edge.

I agree that the [name_m]Ayrton[/name_m] [name_u]Senna[/name_u] association is strong, except people outside of f1 will most likely not make the connection. I think [name_m]Ayrton[/name_m] fits the rugged but gentle vibe of [name_u]Declan[/name_u], whilst being distinctive enough on its’ own.

I love [name_u]James[/name_u]. [name_m]Hamish[/name_m] is interesting, but I like it. [name_m]Ayrton[/name_m] sounds pretentious to me. It sounds like an [name_f]English[/name_f] boarding school for boys.
