Thoughts on Barnaby?

[name_m]Barnaby[/name_m].
DH thinks it’s reminiscent of the big, stupid, purple dinosaur. I think he’s being ridiculous.

Opinions? Usuable? Possible nicknames?

I like it. I think the “natural” nn would be [name_m]Barney[/name_m] although I prefer [name_m]Barnaby[/name_m]. [name_m]Barney[/name_m] is very casual sounding if he is in a serious profession as an adult.

I really like [name_m]Barnaby[/name_m]! I think it sounds really adorable on a little boy, and still sophisticated on an adult. Plus I get a vintage vibe from it that I really love too. I prefer [name_m]Barnaby[/name_m] in full, but I quite like Nib, although [name_m]Barney[/name_m] reminds me of the character in the Simpsons (and the dinosaur); [name_m]Barnaby[/name_m] itself doesn’t though.

I love [name_m]Barnaby[/name_m]! I think it’s a beautiful name with a vintage touch. Personally, I don’t think it needs a nickname, however the only one I can think of atm is [name_m]Barney[/name_m].

I absolutely love it, and it would be in consideration for this baby if SO didn’t hate it so much (he thinks it’s too “nerdy” and “old man” sounding). I prefer [name_m]Barnes[/name_m] as a nickname rather than [name_m]Barney[/name_m], but I think our generation is the last one that will think of [name_m]Barney[/name_m] the dinosaur. Kids now don’t watch that show anymore so it’s not an issue for me. You could also use NN [name_u]Barry[/name_u] or [name_u]Bay[/name_u] without being too much of a stretch [name_f]IMO[/name_f].

I love [name_m]Barnaby[/name_m]! I probably wouldn’t use a nickname for it but as others have said [name_m]Barney[/name_m] is the obvious choice. I can’t think of any other nicknames that don’t sound like pet names & terms of endearment

I like it, I see it as geek-chic. I only like it in full though, so I prefer it in the middle. Getting creative tho, maybe [name_m]Bear[/name_m] or [name_m]Abe[/name_m]? If you want to avoid [name_m]Barney[/name_m] I think you’d need to establish an alternative nickname early on.

I’m gonna go ahead and disagree with everyone and say it’s EXTREMELY old man, plus vaguely reminiscent of big purple dinosaur. I think a child with this name would stand out among his peers, but not in a good way… a way that’s like “That’s strange, I wonder why his parents named him that…”

I love [name_m]Barnaby[/name_m]! It’s such a happy sounding name. I actually like the nickname [name_m]Barney[/name_m], but there’s other options too if you get creative about it: [name_m]Barnes[/name_m], [name_m]Ben[/name_m], [name_m]Beau[/name_m], [name_m]Abe[/name_m], [name_u]Ari[/name_u]…

Actually loving it, very vintage and gentleman sounding. I would probably use the nickname [name_m]Barn[/name_m] or [name_m]Barnes[/name_m].

[name_m]Barnaby[/name_m] [name_m]Jones[/name_m] (tv show before your time), then all the dogs I’ve known named [name_m]Barney[/name_m], then the dumb dinosaur. [name_m]Barnabus[/name_m] is better, but I’d keep looking.

I love [name_m]Barnaby[/name_m], but couldn’t ever use it myself as 1) I have a cousin with the name and 2) it’s far too popular where I live - I have met more than one young [name_m]Barnaby[/name_m] in the past month alone. [name_m]How[/name_m] strange that people think it’s too ‘old mannish’ - I simply can’t see that, but that’s different locations for you. My cousin is the full [name_m]Barnaby[/name_m] most of the time, but was [name_f]Barbie[/name_f] until he was old enough to disagree… We all thought it was hilarious, but his parents didn’t see the funny side. [name_m]Barney[/name_m] is sweet and I like the suggestions of [name_m]Bear[/name_m] - B is a simple nickname if nothing else appeals. Good luck!

I prefer [name_m]Barnabas[/name_m] but i do love [name_m]Barnaby[/name_m] its such and old man name to me which i love. For nicknames there’s the obvious barney and [name_m]Barnes[/name_m].’[name_f]Bee[/name_f]’,Arby work too. But [name_m]Arnie[/name_m] would be my choice.
