Thoughts on Beatrice

We like the name Beatrice a lot for our baby girl, but we don’t want to give her a name she’ll hate. What do you think?

Her full name would be Beatrice Charlotte, Beatrice Donna, or Beatrice Jean with a one syllable last name.

We were strongly considering Josephine as well but are wary after seeing how popular it’s become. Other name suggestions are welcome!

[name_f]Beatrice[/name_f] [name_u]Jean[/name_u] is stunning!

[name_f]Beatrice[/name_f] is a lovely name! I understand not wanting to give your child a name they will end up hating, but there is quite literally no way to know if they will like their name or not. That’s always a possibility, whether her name is [name_f]Olivia[/name_f] or [name_f]Andromeda[/name_f].

Based off [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f] & [name_f]Josephine[/name_f]:
[name_f]Eloise[/name_f]
[name_f]Mabel[/name_f]
[name_f]Delilah[/name_f]
[name_f]Penelope[/name_f]
[name_f]Cordelia[/name_f]
[name_f]Adeline[/name_f]

I like [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f]! I do find it a little bland, it doesn’t have much spunk and all I can see is ‘beat rice.’ I love [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] though! [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] is one of my favorite names and I also love it as a middle! [name_u]Ellis[/name_u] [name_f]Josephine[/name_f], [name_u]Laurel[/name_u] [name_f]Josephine[/name_f], [name_u]Kendall[/name_u] [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] and [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] are so pretty! [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] [name_f]Violet[/name_f] “Josie” is gorgeous too :heart_eyes:

I think you’ll love [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] [name_f]Violet[/name_f] and [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] [name_f]Josephine[/name_f]!

Many people I know went through phases of hating their names. It is going to happen somewhere in their childhood. You can only choose a name. if you speak her name (whatever it is) kindly she will love it. If spoken harshly often enough, she might grow to hate it. If you are worried about one particular name give her an extra middle name so that she has two or three choices.

[name_f]Beatrice[/name_f] [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] [name_u]Jean[/name_u] is amazing.

[name_f]Beatrice[/name_f] [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] is a great name. [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f] is more unusual and a name you love- [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] is a frequently used name for good reason. Pretty much everyone likes it so it seems like a safe middle choice that she can choose to go by if you’re worried she won’t like [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f].

I used to be rather “meh” about the name [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f], but it has grown on me a lot recently. It’s a very historic name with a lovely meaning and plenty of interesting namesakes (it was the name of Dante’s muse). Plus the nicknames [name_f]Bea[/name_f] and [name_f]Bebe[/name_f] are cute. I think [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f] [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] is beautiful.

I agree that a lot of children go through phases of disliking their names (I know I did, and my name is a lot more common than Beatrice). It’s not something you can really predict (unless the name has some obvious bad association, which [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f] does not).

I actually never disliked my name growing up! I think a MAJOR part in that was because I wasn’t always called [name_f]Eleanore[/name_f]. I had many pet names and just fun names that people called me; some that were and were not related to my actual name. I think variety is a good thing to have in a name. Also just having fun with nicknames is a big thing too. [name_f]Eleanore[/name_f] was usually only used when people were talking about me to others, taking to me in a serious manner/basic things that didn’t have much humor (like homework or something,) or when the person wasn’t close to me and didn’t have any nicknames for me.

When choosing a name, whether it be [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f], [name_f]Josephine[/name_f], or [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f], don’t just think (pretend you name her Josephine) “Will I call her [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] and only use the name [name_u]Josie[/name_u] sometimes or will I use [name_u]Josie[/name_u] most often than [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] or maybe never call her [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] and only Josie” because then that limits what she wants to go by. When she’s young call her both [name_u]Josie[/name_u] and [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] equally and see what she prefers. Maybe even come up with some cool nickname possibilities like [name_u]Philly[/name_u], [name_f]Posie[/name_f], or some based on her last name! I had 2 main nicknames that came from my last name and I loved them! Also, there’s nicknames for first and middle combos like [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] [name_f]Violet[/name_f] - [name_f]Jovie[/name_f], [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] [name_f]Diana[/name_f] - [name_u]Jodie[/name_u], or [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] [name_f]Lisette[/name_f] - [name_f]Jolie[/name_f]! So many possibilities for nicknames!

I think the main message is to make sure to have fun with your kids names and nicknames so they won’t grow to dislike their “one name.” Give options and see what you can come up with!

We’ve never considered giving her two middle names! I love the idea. Thank you for the suggestion.

I agree! One of the big things that drew us towards [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f] and [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] were the nickname possibilities! [name_f]My[/name_f] name’s [name_f]Rachel[/name_f], and I’ve always been jealous of people who have cute nicknames. “Rach” just doesn’t sound great. If we name her [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f], we’ll definitely call her [name_f]Bea[/name_f] at least some of the time. I could see my dad calling her something like “Bumble Bea” when she’s little. Thank you for your input!

The opinion that [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f] is a bland name is one of the main reasons I decided to ask what people thought. I don’t think it is, but I’ve heard a couple people say that. Fortunately, that doesn’t seem to be the majority opinion so far. Thank you for your feedback!

Ok, Bumble Bea (that spelling!) is the CUTEST! THING! I! HAVE! EVER! HEARD! (or SEEN!) I am dying . . . and now I’m full-blown dead over how cute that is. Now I feel like this HAS to be her name so her grandpa can call her that. <3

[name_m]Just[/name_m] want to throw [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f] into the mix, which I love and think might be spunkier than [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f], plots you can still totally use Bumble [name_f]Bea[/name_f] as a nickname

I like [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f] [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f]. I would avoid BJ as initials.
