Thoughts on Beau?

We have just started TTC our first baby, so we are v. excited! I have one or two girls names that I adore (& my husband has ok-ed) that we would most definitely use. However, I’m still trying to find “the one” for a future boy.

I have always liked the name [name_u]Beau[/name_u], but lately am just starting to love it, and really consider it as a front runner for a future son, as a first name, whilst previously I had thought of it mainly as a middle.

Wondering what are people’s thoughts on [name_u]Beau[/name_u] - do you like it? What connotations does it have for you? Would you use it yourself as a first name or would you relegate it to a middle name? [name_f]Do[/name_f] you know any Beaus [name_m]IRL[/name_m]?

Thanks!

I know 1 [name_u]Beau[/name_u] that’s in his early 20’s. I honestly feel like the name is really light and feminine and not very strong at all, so I’m not a fan.

Handsome name with a fun cowboy-ish feel, I like it a lot.
I wouldn’t use it as a first name since I dislike names that have no nicknames though I could see myself using a longer form to get to [name_u]Bo[/name_u]. I live in Greece so I don’t know any Beaus

I know one, hes 7yrs old and has really blonde hair and is into snowboarding in winter and skateboarding in summer. Hes a real “boy” boy if you know what i mean and hes a handsome chap so its rough and tumble with a certain charm about it name for me

I don’t know any. I don’t like it as it makes me think of [name_m]Little[/name_m] [name_u]Bo[/name_u] Peep and [name_u]Beau[/name_u] means “a male lover or sweetheart; [LEFT]a frequent and attentive male escort for a girl or woman; a dandy or fop.” I know the use of it is much less, but that’s what comes to mind. I wouldn’t use it, but if I had to it would be a second middle.[/LEFT]

I like it better for a girl, but it’s also lovely for a boy

[name_u]Beau[/name_u] was on my list of names too! My husband doesn’t like it though, so he vetoed it. It seems like it’s a name one may love or hate.

I know of a little [name_u]Beau[/name_u], but I’ve never been a fan of the name. Not sure why, maybe because the sound is too simple?

I know a [name_u]Beau[/name_u] in his early 20’s who loves his name. He speaks [name_m]French[/name_m] and so is fully aware of the “lover” connotation, but this doesn’t bother him. It does get misspelled as “[name_u]Bo[/name_u]” fairly regularly by strangers, but this isn’t any worse than my name getting spelled as “[name_f]Ann[/name_f]” in my opinion. I think it’s a very handsome, charming, strong name. I see how some people could think it’s feminine, but to me it’s suave while still being fun.

(Edited to add that his full name is Beau Ch@rles, which is a ridiculously good combo in my opinion.)

I know a [name_u]Beau[/name_u] [name_m]Maverick[/name_m]. He’s roughly 8 now. He’s a rather scrawny and feeble child (physically) and that’s just the exact image I’ve always gotten from the name [name_u]Beau[/name_u]. It also does remind me of the romantic connotation. It’s never a name that I could or would use, but if someone were to want to chose it, I’d suggest it as a middle name only.

I like it in the middle spot

Thanks everyone for your thoughts, interesting to see the different connotations people get! Turns out my husband has changed his mind and doesn’t like it anyway. Haha. ”
