Thoughts on Bella?

I’m warming to the name [name_f]Bella[/name_f], although I dislike it as a nickname for [name_f]Arabella[/name_f], as I feel like [name_f]Arabella[/name_f] is almost too pretty to be shortened. However, I’m a bit concerned with it, as I know it’s very popular as a dog’s name - to the point where, I actually only know 1 human [name_f]Bella[/name_f], and it’s just a nickname for her (her actual name is [name_f]Carmela[/name_f]).

[name_f]My[/name_f] family does have a tendency to use very acceptable human names for their pets, such as:

[name_f]Keira[/name_f]
[name_f]Lilly[/name_f]
[name_m]Oliver[/name_m]
[name_f]Maggie[/name_f] [name_f]May[/name_f]
[name_f]Maggie[/name_f] (yes, two different dogs)
[name_f]Daisy[/name_f] [name_f]Mae[/name_f]
[name_f]Molly[/name_f]/[name_f]Mollie[/name_f] (again, two)
[name_u]Bailey[/name_u]
[name_f]Sadie[/name_f]
[name_m]Jake[/name_m]
[name_u]Shannon[/name_u]
[name_u]James[/name_u]/[name_u]Jamie[/name_u]

Because of who a few of these pets belong to, I actually likely can’t use some of them ([name_f]Keira[/name_f], [name_m]Oliver[/name_m] and [name_f]Lilly[/name_f] mostly).
I feel like because of the names my family does use for animals, [name_f]Bella[/name_f] is very much a possibility for the next pup or kitten my aunties or cousins get, which would, depending on the aunt or cousin, would render the name unusable (I have one aunt and cousin in particular who would most definitely say that a name, such as [name_f]Keira[/name_f] is a dog’s name only now).

So, is [name_f]Bella[/name_f] ok to use, or should I avoid it like the plague and add it to the never ending list of ‘pets only’ names?

It’s fine to use! It’s my favourite girl name.

Saying that, my dog was going to be called [name_f]Bella[/name_f] (she was called [name_f]Tilly[/name_f] instead)… I don’t see a problem with it at all. Dog names are just human names that people put on their furry friends. No big deal. If you like it - go for it!
