I’ve recently started to love the name [name_f]Beth[/name_f], not as a nickname though, just as a name on it’s own. In [name_f]Scotland[/name_f] (where I’m from) [name_f]Beth[/name_f] is actually in the Top 100 so it’s definitely not unheard of as a stand alone name here but I’d like to hear some opinions of it!
Do you think Beth is too short a name on it’s own? If you met a girl named Beth would you assume her name was short for Elizabeth, Bethany, etc?
I like [name_f]Beth[/name_f] and it can easily work on it’s own. It does not have the same feel as some of the [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] nns such as [name_f]Lizzy[/name_f] or [name_f]Libby[/name_f], which do have a much more nick-namey feel. Go for it!
I think it’s too popular, like [name_m]WAY[/name_m] too popular. It’s a popular name within people my age (15-18). I know so many [name_f]Beth[/name_f]'s. Off the top of my head, 6 people use it as a nn for [name_f]Bethany[/name_f], 1 for [name_f]Bethan[/name_f], 1 for Bethney. I don’t know anyone who’s actually just called [name_f]Beth[/name_f], but I do think it’s too popular. It’s one of those names that is not only popular in top 100/1000 charts, but popular with people you know. If that makes sense.
I like it! It’s my middle name. I do like [name_f]Bethany[/name_f] with [name_f]Beth[/name_f] as a nickname, but if that’s not your style, then I think [name_f]Beth[/name_f] can work on its own!
I love [name_f]Beth[/name_f], and I definitely think it would work as a stand alone name. I don’t really think of [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] when I hear it. I also don’t know many Beths at all, in fact I’ve only just met my first, who was probably in her 20s. But it’s a lot less popular now than in the past.
I’ve met many lovely [name_f]Beth[/name_f]'s and think it can definitely work as a standalone name. I’ve never assumed that any [name_f]Beth[/name_f] I met was named just [name_f]Beth[/name_f] or that [name_f]Beth[/name_f] was short for a longer name, if that makes sense. That’s because [name_f]Beth[/name_f] is fine as a standalone name but at the same time there is a possibility that it could be short for a longer name. Either way it works. If you don’t mind the popularity of it, go right ahead!
I prefer just [name_f]Beth[/name_f] than [name_f]Beth[/name_f] as nickname for [name_f]Elisabeth[/name_f] or [name_f]Bethany[/name_f]. I do, however, imagine I would assume upon meeting a [name_f]Beth[/name_f] that her name was a nickname, but I don’t think I’d assume so much as to query further. If she goes by [name_f]Beth[/name_f], she’s just [name_f]Beth[/name_f].
I think [name_f]Beth[/name_f] is great! I know a lot of [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f]'s who go by [name_f]Beth[/name_f], and a [name_f]Bethany[/name_f] - but I don’t tie it to either of those names. It works fine on it’s own I think in the UK it’s used a lot more as a standalone name though? I know quite a few from [name_f]England[/name_f], [name_f]Scotland[/name_f] and [name_m]Wales[/name_m] who are just [name_f]Beth[/name_f].
I always loved [name_f]Beth[/name_f], but hated [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] until I got older. I do think Naming her a longer version of [name_f]Beth[/name_f] would be impudent, as she can always use the long form to her advantage at various times in her life. You can always on insisting her name as [name_f]Beth[/name_f] though! SOme thoughts:
I much prefer [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] sans nicknames. I grew up w/friends named simply [name_f]Beth[/name_f], but I always found it to be kind of mild and boring, as were the girls who carried the name.
