My step-father’s brother is named [name]Carlyle[/name]. He is the sweetest older gentleman, and I really like the name. I also like the [name]Carlisle[/name] spelling. Thoughts on this name? We are big on nicknames–but I’m not a fan of [name]Carl[/name]. I think [name]Carly[/name] is cute–not sure how that would fit on a boy?
I prefer the spelling [name]Carlisle[/name] (like the Northern [name]England[/name] town) because [name]Carlyle[/name] looks more like a smoosh of two names ([name]Carl[/name] and [name]Lyle[/name]). Giving him a different spelling than the family member would be the way to go. I knew someone with the surname of [name]Carlisle[/name] so it’s more of a surname for me. Surnames aren’t my cup of tea but I’ve heard worse. Since you like it and your honoring someone in the family, go for it!
I like [name]Carlisle[/name], but I wouldn’t shorten it. It is one of those names, I would never use because I can’t stand the nicknames for it. Either [name]Carl[/name] or [name]Lyle[/name] sound plain and boring to me. I don’t like [name]Carly[/name] on a boy.
[name]Carlyle[/name] looks more made-up to me because of the trendy “y”, but [name]Carlisle[/name] looks slightly more feminine. I guess I would choose [name]Carlisle[/name]. It’s a very handsome and gentlemanly-sounding name that I wouldn’t shorten. [name]Carly[/name] is all girl to me.
I prefer the [name]Carlisle[/name] spelling, and I think it’s quite handsome. You could call him [name]Lyle[/name], if you need a nickname. Or maybe [name]Cal[/name].
[name]Carlisle[/name], by a long way. I’m not a fan of [name]Carl[/name] either. I like the nickname [name]Lyle[/name]. Or as the previous poster suggested, [name]Cal[/name].
I very much like [name]Carlisle[/name] and [name]Carlyle[/name], though I do prefer the first spelling. I also adore the nickname [name]Lyle[/name]- so soft and sweet!
