Thoughts on Carter

[name]Hi[/name],

My hubby and I are expecting our first child in [name]July[/name].
We are currently thinking of naming him [name]Carter[/name] [name]William[/name] ([name]William[/name] being my husband’s mn). I would love some feedback on this combination.
Our surname is 3 syllables ending in ‘son’ so I’m finding it very difficult to find the perfect given name.
I don’t believe [name]Carter[/name] is common in Australia which also appeals to me.

Thanks

Personally, I don’t like it. Surnames as first names is nms. But it does flow very well with [name]William[/name], and it’s a name that will age well as your son gets older.

I am usually not a fan of surnames either but I love [name]Carter[/name]! I think it is a great name and [name]Carter[/name] [name]William[/name] is so handsome! I agree with pp that it will age very well!

I like it. My friend has a 1 yr old name [name]Carter[/name] and he’s adorable. And I think it goes well with [name]William[/name].

I love [name]Carter[/name]! [name]Carter[/name] [name]William[/name] sounds great.

I [name]LOVE[/name] [name]Carter[/name]!! I have it on my list as an MN but it could easily be a FN for me too. I think [name]Carter[/name] [name]William[/name] is fabulous!

Thanks for the feedback everyone! It’s very reassuring and I agree that it will age well

I think [name]Carter[/name] has been a FN option long enough that it shouldn’t matter if it was once/is a surname. After all, names like [name]Elliott[/name] and [name]Asher[/name] that are super popular now were at one time surnames as well.

As for the combination, I think [name]Carter[/name] [name]William[/name] is a lovely combination. It’s approachable and classic.

I’m not a fan of [name]Carter[/name], personally, sorry! It’s not that it doesn’t age well (because I believe it will!), and it’s not because it’s surnamey (because about 80% of my boys’ list is surnamey!)–I guess the more common, -er surnamey choices have never really been my thing–I don’t love [name]Cooper[/name], [name]Parker[/name], [name]Tanner[/name], or [name]Tucker[/name], either! [name]William[/name] classes up [name]Carter[/name] quite a bit, imo, though, and I think [name]Carter[/name] [name]William[/name] is a very attractive option!

If you really love it like no other, don’t let me get in the way, hehe.

I might be bias but I’m really not a fan of the idea of surnames being first names. [name]Carter[/name] in particular is my father’s last name, and even though I’ve only ever used my mother’s maiden name-I just find it weird.

But don’t let this sway you if you really love the name.

I like [name]Carter[/name], and in terms of popularity it wasn’t in the [name]Vic[/name] top 100 in 2010 or 2011. It was just outside the top 100 for Australia nationally in 2011, so it’s well known but not super popular, if that helps.
