Thanks everyone who answered my earlier thread on English/Irish names. It was surprising how many of the suggestions were on my long list–clearly I’m in the right place!
We think we’ve narrowed it down to the above two names. Both are pretty but to me they have different sounds–[name_f]Celia[/name_f] is more lively while Celise (pronounced like “[name_f]Elise[/name_f]” with a “ss” in front" is more feminine and adult.
I like both! Which do you think sounds better with sibling [name_m]Edric[/name_m] and last name O’[name_f]Malley[/name_f]?
I vote [name_f]Celia[/name_f]. It is easier to pronounce and spell, therefore giving her less problems, and I think it would age beautifully. I like how it sounds better with your surname as well.
I like Celise better with your sons name and with your last name. I have never heard this name before, but if it is a legit Irish name then I think it’s great! I would have guessed that was how it was pronounced and that would have also probably been my first guess of how to spell it.
I vote [name_f]Celia[/name_f]. I love how lively yet smooth it is. It’s a classic name but I haven’t seen it in use very much.
I just did a basic Google of Celise and it’s frustrating me: I don’t see any real origin for it, and it reminds me of several other names at the same time - it’s close to [name_f]Elise[/name_f], close to [name_f]Cerise[/name_f] (the [name_m]French[/name_m] word for “cherry” that does see some use as a name), close to [name_f]Celeste[/name_f], close to [name_f]Celine[/name_f]… so I can imagine many ways in which people would misspell or misunderstand it.
[name_m]Feel[/name_m] free to ignore this if you’re not looking for any more suggestions, but if you are, you may like [name_f]Cecily[/name_f] - a variation on [name_f]Celia[/name_f] but more familiar than Celise.
I like [name_f]Celia[/name_f] 1000x more than Celise! Celise sounds to me like you could decide between [name_f]Celia[/name_f] & [name_f]Elise[/name_f] so smashed the names together. [name_f]Celia[/name_f] is so pretty! I adore it!
[name_f]Celia[/name_f] is so smooth and beautiful, it has my vote! Celise reminds me of celosa (jealous) for some reason, and I can’t un-hear it. I don’t think that would be a normal association, but I think it might be misheard as [name_f]Elise[/name_f] or [name_f]Celeste[/name_f] a bit. I don’t dislike the name Celise, but I’d be thrilled to meet a baby [name_f]Celia[/name_f].
