I really like the name [name_m]Christopher[/name_m], but I’m not big on [name_u]Chris[/name_u], and no one besides me seems to enjoy [name_m]Topher[/name_m].
So I was thinking… what about just Toph? (rhyming with “off”)
It’s been growing on me, and I wanted to see what other berries thought of it.
My DH is called [name_m]Christopher[/name_m], and gets called [name_u]Chris[/name_u] which he doesn’t particularly like. His little brother couldn’t say [name_m]Christopher[/name_m] and he got called [name_m]Topher[/name_m]. I call him [name_m]Topher[/name_m] from time to time.
I think [name_m]Topher[/name_m] or Toph is nice.
[name_m]Christopher[/name_m] is on our list for #3 (But I think we will use it as a mn) if we use it, he would be called [name_u]Kit[/name_u]
I don’t really like it myself. And he’ll still be called [name_u]Chris[/name_u] anyway, so that’s something to consider as well. Maybe use [name_m]Christopher[/name_m] as a MN? You could still call him Toph as a special nn.
I used to baby sit a [name_m]Topher[/name_m], I thought it was a cool nickname, and no one ever called him [name_u]Chris[/name_u]. Toph works, I think its cool and different. Have you considered the nn [name_u]Kit[/name_u]?
I like the idea, but I feel like it would be really challenging to get everyone to call him Toph rather than [name_u]Chris[/name_u]. [name_u]Chris[/name_u] it just to standard, people will do it without a second thought.
I like Toph; it sounds very cool and modern. Also, don’t worry about him being called [name_u]Chris[/name_u]. They won’t have any reason to do that if you’re offering an alternative short form (unless he eventually decides to go by [name_u]Chris[/name_u]). In my experience, people call you what you introduce yourself as.
Where I come from Toff is the nickname for an overly posh person, it’s kind of an insult. But if that doesn’t apply to your part of the world I guess you don’t need to consider it. I think instinctively people will still go for [name_u]Chris[/name_u] unless he always introduces himself as Toph and corrects people who say [name_u]Chris[/name_u]. I actually know a [name_m]Christopher[/name_m] who gets [name_m]Christopher[/name_m] because that’s how he and his family always refer to him.
I actually prefer [name_m]Topher[/name_m] to [name_u]Chris[/name_u].
Toph is interesting, but I’d be more likely to pronounce it toeff/towff the same way [name_m]Topher[/name_m] is pronounced.
I don’t like [name_m]Topher[/name_m] or Toph, I think because all I can think of is Toff which is basically a derogatory term for someone with an aristocratic background or anyone who acts superior. Although don’t know if the term is common where you are.
If I end up with a [name_m]Christopher[/name_m] he will be nn. [name_m]Kip[/name_m], I also dislike [name_u]Chris[/name_u]. I know a [name_m]Christopher[/name_m] who goes by Top or Topper which I also don’t mind
