This seems to be the top contender for our [name_u]November[/name_u] baby. It’s an important family surname and we happen to both quite like it (a small miracle).
Potential problems with it are:
-
Its a pretty common surname and our own surname is a recognizable (not top 1000) first name. [name_m]Will[/name_m] this be confusing?
-
Husband’s name is [name_m]Kent[/name_m]. He was actually named by his dad who thought he entered the world like a “speeding bullet.” A lot of people wanted us to name DS1 [name_m]Clark[/name_m] [name_m]Kent[/name_m] ____. Not a bad association, but I already feel like [name_m]Clark[/name_m] is pretty tied to the [name_m]Man[/name_m] of [name_u]Steel[/name_u] without the whole [name_m]Kent[/name_m]-as-a-dad thing.
-
I am having a hard time finding a middle name that I like with it. I’d love suggestions that flow well.
I really like the name [name_m]Clark[/name_m]! It’s a great name that’s familiar but not overused.
-
I don’t see it as that confusing, since [name_m]Clark[/name_m] is also known to be a first name as well.
-
That’s a hard one. I love Superman (particularly the old [name_u]Dean[/name_u] [name_m]Cain[/name_m] show), so I like the connection, but I can see it being a little much. In your case, I think it’s slightly offset by the fact that you have three children already with non-Superman names; if you’re signing [name_u]Christmas[/name_u] cards “[name_f]Love[/name_f] Mom, [name_m]Kent[/name_m], and [name_m]Clark[/name_m]”, the connection is obvious, but if it’s “[name_f]Love[/name_f] Mom, [name_m]Kent[/name_m], other children, and [name_m]Clark[/name_m]”, it’s not so obvious. People will make comments sometimes, but it’s usable… as long as your name isn’t [name_f]Lois[/name_f].

I like [name_m]Clark[/name_m] with a longer middle name. Suggestions: [name_m]Clark[/name_m] [name_m]Alexander[/name_m], [name_m]Clark[/name_m] [name_m]Anthony[/name_m], [name_m]Clark[/name_m] [name_m]Benjamin[/name_m], [name_m]Clark[/name_m] [name_u]Everett[/name_u], [name_m]Clark[/name_m] [name_m]Julian[/name_m]
maggiefromcanada is right on.
We considered [name]Clark[/name] for a first name too–it’s a family last name on my mom’s side. I think it has a “cool factor” plus it sounds strong and easy for a man to grow into. I like the suggestions for a longer middle name: [name]Alexander and Benjamin[/name] being my favorite. Others to consider [name]Bennett, Barrett, Nathaniel, Zachary, Gregory[/name].
Good luck and congrats on another boy!
I love [name_m]Clark[/name_m]!
I love [name_m]Clark[/name_m]! It really needs to be used more often. The fact that it’s a family name for you makes it all the better!
I don’t think having a [name_m]Clark[/name_m] and a [name_m]Kent[/name_m] in the same family would necessarily be an issue. My cousin’s name is [name_m]Michael[/name_m] and his son’s name is [name_m]Jackson[/name_m]. It’s sort of the same situation, and as far as I know nobody has ever said anything. Personally I think it’s kind of cool. [name_m]Clark[/name_m] isn’t exclusively tied to Superman either. There’s also [name_m]Lewis[/name_m] & [name_m]Clark[/name_m] and [name_m]Clark[/name_m] [name_m]Gable[/name_m].
I agree with using a longer middle name. Clark Theodore, Clark Nathaniel, Clark Matthias, Clark Alexander, Clark Tobias, Clark Isaiah, Clark Elliot, Clark Gabriel, etc.
I love [name_m]Clark[/name_m], he’s a handsome choice and yes their are the associations what with [name_m]Clark[/name_m] and [name_m]Kent[/name_m] but at the end of day you like the name so why don’t you use just use it! : )
I like it! And I actually like the Superman references…I think it’s fine. And I like [name_m]Clark[/name_m] [name_m]Alexander[/name_m].
[name_m]Clark[/name_m] [name_m]Nathan[/name_m]
[name_m]Clark[/name_m] [name_m]Oliver[/name_m]
[name_m]Clark[/name_m] [name_m]Maddox[/name_m]
[name_m]Clark[/name_m] [name_m]Alexander[/name_m]
[name_m]Clark[/name_m] [name_m]Nathaniel[/name_m]
[name_m]Clark[/name_m] [name_m]Finnian[/name_m]
[name_m]Clark[/name_m] [name_m]Finnegan[/name_m]
[name_m]Clark[/name_m] [name_u]Everett[/name_u]
[name_m]Clark[/name_m] [name_u]Jamison[/name_u]
[name_m]Clark[/name_m] [name_m]Henry[/name_m]
[name_m]Clark[/name_m] [name_m]William[/name_m]
[name_m]Clark[/name_m] [name_m]Donovan[/name_m]
[name_m]Clark[/name_m] [name_m]Phineas[/name_m]
[name_m]Clark[/name_m] [name_m]Rafferty[/name_m]
[name_m]Clark[/name_m] [name_m]Samuel[/name_m]
[name_m]Clark[/name_m] [name_u]Tiernan[/name_u]
[name_m]Clark[/name_m] [name_m]Jacoby[/name_m]
[name_m]Clark[/name_m] [name_m]Augustus[/name_m]
[name_m]Clark[/name_m] [name_m]Jonas[/name_m]
[name_m]Clark[/name_m] [name_m]Jonathan[/name_m]
Thanks everybody. I really love [name_m]Clark[/name_m], but I think I am less sure of myself lately because of all the pregnancy hormones. I think you are all right about having a longer middle name to compliment it. I love your suggestions. I’m slow at this naming stuff so I have to give it some thought. Thanks again.
I’m Back! [name_m]Clark[/name_m] has really grown on me and I am looking for middle names to go with it. Usually I go for a family name, but since [name_m]Clark[/name_m] already covers that base I am mostly looking for flow.
Here’s some other things to consider:
I’m mostly looking at 3+ Syllables - I definitely agree with you ladies that [name_m]Clark[/name_m] seems to pair better with a longer 3-4 syllable middle name.
Last name sounds like “Oh-tiss” so nothing ending with O will work. Neither will anything ending in S, just too hissy.
Thank you so much for your responses!
[name_m]Clark[/name_m] [name_m]Anthony[/name_m] - This is would be my favorite but I feel like it is a bit close to [name_m]Marc[/name_m] [name_m]Anthony[/name_m]. Thoughts?
[name_m]Clark[/name_m] [name_m]Alexander[/name_m] - I also like this one but I am getting a little tired of hearing [name_m]Alexander[/name_m] in the middle. Its still under consideration though.
[name_m]Clark[/name_m] [name_m]Benjamin[/name_m] - I’ve always loved [name_m]Benjamin[/name_m] but never considered it because I didn’t want [name_m]BO[/name_m] initials. Is CBO OK? DH also has a cousin [name_m]Ben[/name_m] who we
never see (so not a big deal to us).
[name_m]Clark[/name_m] [name_m]Nathaniel[/name_m] - I’ve never really liked [name_m]Nathaniel[/name_m], but I love it in this combination. Maybe I can find something similar ending in l.
[name_m]Clark[/name_m] [name_m]Gabriel[/name_m] - A good alternative, but all I hear is [name_m]Clark[/name_m] [name_m]Gable[/name_m].
[name_m]Clark[/name_m] [name_m]Jacoby[/name_m] - I love this, but it seems tied to avid sports athletes/fans, which would be laughably ironic for us. WDYT?
[name_m]Clark[/name_m] [name_m]Rafferty[/name_m] - Perfect, but too close to [name_m]Raphiel[/name_m]/[name_m]Raphael[/name_m] (another family name) used for one of my sons.
[name_m]Clark[/name_m] [name_m]Finnegan[/name_m] - I’m worried about CFO. I know I should see “Chief Financial Officer” and be happy, but all I see is FO. Am I too sensitive about
initials?
[name_m]Clark[/name_m] [name_m]Oliver[/name_m] - [name_f]Olivia[/name_f]'s popularity has kind of made this seem stale to me. I do like it so it is still under consideration.
I like [name_m]Clark[/name_m] [name_m]Alexander[/name_m] and [name_m]Clark[/name_m] [name_m]Oliver[/name_m]-- I think the vowel following the hard k-sound works well.
