Since my lovely husband and I are at opposite ends of the name spectrum finding a boys name we both like (forget love!) has been quite the daunting task. And then he suggested [name_u]Corey[/name_u]. To which I originally balked. It’s a girls name! Can you name [name_f]ONE[/name_f] [name_u]Corey[/name_u] that we know who isn’t…or wasn’t…a delinquent and menace to society!! [name_u]Corey[/name_u] will never grow up…can you picture a 40 yr old man name [name_u]Corey[/name_u]!!? All there are legit concerns of mine!
But I then had a thought…what if I could find a name that could be shortened to [name_u]Corey[/name_u]. That way when the time comes to fill out college & job applications he can have a stronger- more grown up name. Enter [name_u]Corban[/name_u].
However I’ve never met a [name_u]Corban[/name_u], or have even heard of a [name_u]Corban[/name_u]. Other than [name_m]Bruce[/name_m] [name_m]Willis[/name_m] in The 5th Element
So Yay…or nay? What’s the word on [name_u]Corban[/name_u] [name_u]Bryce[/name_u]? And as always- suggestions are always welcome!
I prefer the spelling [name_u]Corbin[/name_u], but I think it’s a great name!
Some names (some very out-there) that could potentially be shortened to [name_u]Corey[/name_u]:
[name_m]Cormack[/name_m]
Scorpius
[name_m]Cornelius[/name_m]
[name_m]Corbett[/name_m]
[name_m]Cornell[/name_m]
Best of luck! I think my favourite would have to be [name_m]Cormack[/name_m]
I also prefer the more authentic [name_u]Corbin[/name_u] spelling, but I really like the name! [name_u]Corbin[/name_u] [name_u]Bryce[/name_u] is a great combo. If you’re worried about it being “too out there,” [name_u]Corbin[/name_u] is ranked #221 in US popularity, so it’s definitely not unheard of.
Other ideas:
[name_m]Cormac[/name_m] (no k)
[name_m]Cordell[/name_m]
[name_m]Corwin[/name_m]
[name_m]Conrad[/name_m] (your husband could call him [name_u]Corey[/name_u] and you could call him [name_m]Cord[/name_m])
I have to say, though, that I like [name_u]Corbin[/name_u] the best!
ETA: Corey is actually a male name, so you don’t have to worry about that part, at least.
I prefer [name_u]Corbin[/name_u] and think [name_u]Corbin[/name_u] [name_u]Bryce[/name_u] nn [name_u]Corey[/name_u] is fine.
I don’t really love [name_u]Corban[/name_u] or [name_u]Corbin[/name_u] it makes me think of a mix of the Disney [name_f]Channel[/name_f] and [name_m]Kurt[/name_m] Cobain.
i’ve never seen the spelling [name_u]Corban[/name_u] before. i think [name_u]Corbin[/name_u] or [name_u]Corban[/name_u] both work though. a nice, not too common name that still sounds familiar!
my first associations are the amazing photographer [name_m]Anton[/name_m] Corbijn, and [name_m]Kurt[/name_m] Cobain.
If it matters to you, [name_u]Corban[/name_u] actually has a really nice Biblical/Hebrew meaning. [name_u]Corban[/name_u] is a gift set aside for the [name_m]Lord[/name_m], not to be used for secular use, but only for spiritual use. That is beautiful. I do agree with you about the nn [name_u]Corey[/name_u]; this is the hyper boy who is always in trouble!
Growing up I knew a cute little blonde boy named [name_u]Corbin[/name_u]. I always thought it was cute and original. I have never met a female [name_u]Corey[/name_u]. It was pretty popular for a boys name growing up in school (I am 26 now) and yeah they were all delinquents haha.
You can’t picture a grown man named [name_u]Corey[/name_u]? Really? Have you never watched any 80s movies? [name_u]Corey[/name_u] Feldman and [name_u]Corey[/name_u] [name_m]Haim[/name_m], anyone?
I’m not crazy about [name_u]Corey[/name_u] regardless. My favorite [name_m]Cor[/name_m]- name for a boy is [name_m]Cormac[/name_m]. [name_u]Corbin[/name_u] (this spelling) is okay but not really my style.
doulajulie that’s so funny you were able to dig that up! That was the whole reason behind the -an vs -in I really wanted a biblical “c/k” name but we couldn’t agree on one, so I settled for a biblical/spiritual meaning. Although I like the look of [name_u]Corbin[/name_u] better than [name_u]Corban[/name_u] the meaning makes all the difference
Southern.maple OF COURSE I’m familiar with the two [name_u]Corey[/name_u]'s! It was the epitome of my childhood! But no, even though I can see picture of Feldman he still looks like a little boy to me.
Thanks for all the feed back! [name_m]Even[/name_m] though [name_u]Corban[/name_u] wasn’t my first choice…or even on he radar when we started all the positivity has made the name grow on me keep it comin
Oh…and [name_u]Bryce[/name_u] is a family name- it’s the middle name for my husband, his grandfather & his father.
I think if you’re going to have a different spelling than [name_u]Corbin[/name_u], I’d go with [name_u]Corben[/name_u] so you could use the nn [name_m]Ben[/name_m].
I think Coban [name_u]Bryce[/name_u] sounds well and it’s an interesting solid name.
Sounds like a wonderful compromise!
edit: just looked up the meaning of [name_u]Corban[/name_u] and you’re right, it’s very nice. [name_f]Lovely[/name_f] pick!
