Thoughts on Cordelia?

I quite like this name, but I’ve heard people say “it’s too frilly/princessy/too-much”. For me, it sounds like an intelligent, brave, and strong woman (think [name_m]Shakespeare[/name_m]) and the hard ‘[name_m]Cord[/name_m]’ sound stops it from being too frilly and feminissima, although I do agree it can sound girly at times. What do you think?

Cordelia is strong but pretty! I like it  I love the literary ties and sea meaning

I don’t mind [name_f]Cordelia[/name_f]. It’s not a huge favourite for me, but I love the meaning and background.

Cordelia is an incredibly strong name! Think of [name_m]Lear[/name_m], think of [name_u]Anne[/name_u] of GG, think of the PD [name_u]James[/name_u] books.

It has good strong sounds - the hard c, the r, the d, the l.

Coral and [name_f]Delia[/name_f] and [name_f]Della[/name_f] are lovely nns.

It definitely does not sound “girly” or “princessy” or “frilly” to me!

We named our unborn daughter [name_f]Cordelia[/name_f] and have never regretted it.

It has a beautiful meaning too.

I like it a lot.

I think it’s a great name! Not overly frilly but still feminine and strong sounding!

Lovely choice! I’m so sorry for your loss.

Cordelia is nice! I think of Anne of [name_u]Green[/name_u] Gables and [name_m]Shakespeare[/name_m].

I feel the same way about it as you.

Cordelia is beautiful.

I think she’s strong, feminine and has great literacy references. The meaning ‘daughter of the sea’ is brilliant. I like the nicknames as well. [name_f]Cordelia[/name_f] is lovely.

I remember the British name book I had as a girl saying the meaning was Flowers from the [name_u]Sea[/name_u], which is also gorgeous.

Thank you. It is a small comfort that in [name_f]Heaven[/name_f] no one can nickname her [name_u]Cory[/name_u] or DeDe!

I like the [name_u]Anne[/name_u] of [name_u]Green[/name_u] Gables association but not really a fan of the actual sound of the name.

I love [name_f]Cordelia[/name_f]!! It’s long and beautiful, yes, but not in a frilly/princessy way to me, more in a warrior-ess/bad-ass kind of way. And the meaning as well as the literary connections just make it even better! This name would be quite high on my list if only hubby liked it! He just doesn’t like the cord- start to it
