I’m thinking about [name_u]Darien[/name_u] for a future boy. It’s a variation on [name_m]Darius[/name_m]/[name_u]Darian[/name_u], but I like the look and feel of [name_u]Darien[/name_u] better. (Pronounced [name_f]DAIR[/name_f]-ee-in, like “Dare”+ian.) Would probably use “Dare” as a nickname. Thoughts? Asking because the Nameberry page doesn’t have much for the name and it doesn’t seem to be very popular anymore, so I’m wondering if there’s something about it I’m missing. Also, any preferences on spelling?
By the way, I’m aware of the [name_u]Sailor[/name_u] [name_f]Moon[/name_f] association and it doesn’t bother me :). It’s actually kind of a plus!
[name_u]Darien[/name_u] has a handsome sound to it. It’s not really a name I’ve heard much of but my first instinct is that I like it. It’s new but has some familiar notes to it. I also like the idea of nn Dare as that’s nice and quirky.
@pacifica - Thank you, that’s great feedback. Also I love your signature, those are some gorgeous combos!
I think it’s great! Very handsome.
It’s not my style in that I prefer more masculine sounding names for boys but if you like it, that’s what matters. I prefer [name_m]Darius[/name_m].
I know 2 male Dariens and 2 female Dariens…but I knew the females longer, so I always thought of [name_u]Darien[/name_u] as a girl name. There’s nothing wrong with the name, honestly. I personally don’t like it, with similar sentiments of @whitegardenia. Some “softer” boys names I like, such as [name_m]Caleb[/name_m] or [name_u]Seth[/name_u]. [name_u]Darien[/name_u] is in a different category because it just has a much less substantial sound, if that makes sense. Totally my opinion though. It’s not a bad name though and I think Dare is a quirky, cool nickname
I really like [name_u]Darien[/name_u] and the nickname Dare is great!
I think [name_u]Darien[/name_u] is very handsome. I personally prefer [name_u]Darren[/name_u].
