Thoughts on Desi

I love the name [name_u]Desi[/name_u] but I’m not the biggest fan of [name_m]Desmond[/name_m]. What do you think about just using the name [name_u]Desi[/name_u], or do you have any other suggestions for boy names that could shorten to [name_u]Desi[/name_u]? Thanks!

I don’t love [name_u]Desi[/name_u] on its own for a boy, as it looks more feminine to me, along the lines of [name_f]Demi[/name_f]. But just [name_m]Des[/name_m] with [name_u]Desi[/name_u] as a nickname could be cool !! You can also do [name_u]Edison[/name_u] or [name_u]Dexter[/name_u]!

Thank you, appreciate your input! [name_u]Dexter[/name_u] is my other favorite name!

Hmmm…. I thought this was going to be for a girl as I know 2 girl Desi’s so tend to think of it as a girl name. But now that i think about it- I think I’d like it better for a boy. It’s just OKAY for me. Much prefer [name_u]Dexter[/name_u]!

I knew a [name_m]Deston[/name_m] who went by [name_m]Des[/name_m], maybe you might like that as a long form to get [name_u]Desi[/name_u]

Not sure on [name_u]Desi[/name_u] since it’s used to describe a group of people?

[name_u]Thaddeus[/name_u] ‘Desi’ maybe?

Well, Desi Arnaz’s full name was Desiderio, but I doubt you were looking for that. Desi is fine on its own. Just like Lucy is without the Lucille.

Isn’t [name_u]Desi[/name_u] the name of an ethnicity?

Its ok, i prefer it as a nn for [name_f]Destiny[/name_f]

I love it and would assume [name_u]Desi[/name_u] to be a boy. I personally like [name_m]Desmond[/name_m] but just [name_m]Des[/name_m] would work and you could call him [name_u]Desi[/name_u].

TBH the only men I know named Desi/Dezzy (or Dez) are 60+ year old men who are actually named [name_m]Desmond[/name_m]. That’s my main association with this name.

If you want something different there’s [name_m]Destin[/name_m] or maybe something like [name_m]Dacian[/name_m] or [name_u]Dexter[/name_u] if you don’t mind a stretch.

[name_u]Desi[/name_u] is a name used for people from India/Sri Lanka/Pakistan/Bangladesh/Nepal. I would not use this for a child at all for this reason.

I think the nn/name [name_m]Dez[/name_m] is much better as well as ‘fresher’ and spunkier. Perhaps short for [name_m]Desmond[/name_m], or as @Greyblue suggested, [name_u]Thaddeus[/name_u]?

Thanks for all the insight and taking time to respond! [name_f]My[/name_f] husband is from [name_u]Ireland[/name_u] and he said they spell it [name_f]Dezzie[/name_f] there, short for [name_m]Desmond[/name_m]. I was thinking of [name_u]Desi[/name_u], a la [name_u]Desi[/name_u] Arnaz. Good to know about other context of the word [name_u]Desi[/name_u].
