WDYT of this? I discovered it about seven years ago in a novel, and I thought it sounded so smart, classy, and handsome. I think the nn [name]Dev[/name] is dapper and fun, too.
What names would you pair it with? [name]Both[/name] as brothers or as a MN?
I love the name [name]Devlin[/name]! I heard it first as a MN of a friend’s son. I think [name]Devlin[/name] [name]Josiah[/name] or [name]Devlin[/name] [name]Samuel[/name] are nice, and I think [name]Devlin[/name] & [name]Jonas[/name] would be adorable as brothers! I also think it goes great in a sibset with one of my favorite boy names, [name]Cormac[/name]! [name]Devlin[/name] & [name]Cormac[/name] would be perfect brothers
I’m sorry, I really dislike [name]Devlin[/name]. Our neighbor named their little boy [name]Devlin[/name] and I didn’t like it from the get-go. It’s just too close to devil for me.
I hate to day it, because [name]Devlin[/name] does sound dashing, but my first thought was “devil.” My second thought was “devilish.” My third thought was “deviled eggs.”
I have considered this as a middle name, but only because it is my maiden name. I would not consider it as a first name. And yes, I did get the odd childhood nickname that related to the Devil. It never bothered me much, but it is inevitable that the child will get teased about this.
I once read a novel with a [name]Devlin[/name]. I wonder if it was the same book?
In that book, the character was extremely promiscuous. His character was very sex oriented. For that reason, the name never says “baby boy” to me.
I don’t get the devil association first off. [name]Devin[/name]/[name]Devon[/name]/[name]Devyn[/name] is also really popular, so I doubt there would be THAT much teasing.
However, the name is rather handsome. I guess my point is, I would fall in love with a [name]Devlin[/name], but not name a kid [name]Devlin[/name].
[name]Devlin[/name] & [name]Callum[/name] would be darling siblings!
[name]Devlin[/name] [name]Charles[/name] is the first combo that came to mind.
Also, I remembered that you were having second thoughts about your [name]Josiah[/name] combo. I think [name]Josiah[/name] [name]Devlin[/name] is divine! [name]Just[/name] a suggestion.
I don’t know! I don’t remember much about the character in the series of novels that I read. The book was about this girl in the 1860s/1870s who was a doctor… and she had a male nurse as her assistant. [name]Devlin[/name] [name]Buchanan[/name] was the name of the Dr. lady’s fiance. He was pretty much a jerk, but I liked his name anyway, lol.
I’ve pretty much given up on [name]Devlin[/name], though. It interests me, and I like it, but I doubt I would ever even like it enough to use it. [name]Josiah[/name] [name]Devlin[/name] is really handsome, though (I never really doubted my [name]Josiah[/name] combo–I still adore [name]Josiah[/name] [name]Felix[/name] [name]Robert[/name]–I just don’t love [name]Josiah[/name] as a FN as much as the other choices on my list)! I think it’s kinda amusing that you suggested my little sister’s name ([name]Rebecca[/name]) as a sister for [name]Devlin[/name], though.
yah - Devil is the immediate initial association despite the appeal in the sound of the name. When ever he is mischevious people will want to say, “you little devil!” To me, I would worry that he might internalize the reactions of others and be more likely to trend tword deviousness. But maybe I am overanalyzing it…
