My friend and i were looking for names for her future baby and we came across Duke. I started thinking about it and i like it. What are you thoughts?
I had a guinea pig named [name_u]Duke[/name_u] so I’m kind of endeared to it
It feel pretentious to me. It’s like naming your kid [name_m]King[/name_m] or [name_u]Royal[/name_u]. I prefer [name_m]Luke[/name_m].
I like [name_u]Duke[/name_u] but not for a human.
It is a title (banned in some countries) and an animal name.
I usually picture big dogs named [name_u]Duke[/name_u].
I thought the same thing that it is better on a dog!
I don’t tend to like titles as names, also not keen on the sounds of this one.
I love [name_u]Duke[/name_u] as a nn for [name_m]Duncan[/name_m]
I’m not a fan of giving titles as names. Your child isn’t a royal for sure.
I find it pretentious I like names which subtly mean [name_m]Prince[/name_m] or have regal meanings like [name_u]Rex[/name_u] for instance.
I mean the female equivalent is Duchess… and I’m not sure if that would get a positive reaction either.
I might be the outlier on the thread but [name_u]Duke[/name_u] was a human character on a show I watched so I don’t think it’s completely off the table for a person. I personally like longer names so have [name_u]Duke[/name_u] as a nn makes more sense to me, or maybe a middle.
I think it’s interesting to see these other perspectives. I live in a rural midwestern area and Duke is not uncommon. It’s funny to think that it would be considered pretentious. Here I don’t think it’s thought of as a title name. It’s more of a cowboy name. Like Jed, Hank, etc.
I like it! Id be very excited to hear this on a person.
Plus it’s very Shakespeare… you can watch “shes the man” based off of the play “twelfth night”… and see if you like the name [name_u]Duke[/name_u] being used
