What do you all think of [name_f]Elaine[/name_f]? It used to be somewhat common, but has since fallen out of fashion. I like the name’s history and how it’s a form of [name_f]Helen[/name_f], the Seinfeld (a show I love) character just adds to the charm.
Unfortunately for me [name_f]Elaine[/name_f] makes me think of the annoying social worker in [name_u]Tracy[/name_u] beaker. It has a middle aged woman feel still I think.
But if I didn’t have those connotations it might be nice. It has a kind of [name_u]French[/name_u] feel to it, and I believe it’s the name of [name_m]King[/name_m] [name_m]Arthur[/name_m]’s mother in the legend.
Personally I prefer names like [name_f]Elodie[/name_f], Aliona, [name_f]Ellen[/name_f], [name_f]Elin[/name_f], [name_f]Elinor[/name_f], [name_f]Helena[/name_f], [name_f]Alanna[/name_f], [name_f]Laia[/name_f] or [name_f]Aine[/name_f]
I like [name_f]Elaine[/name_f], but I prefer [name_f]Elaina[/name_f]. I think both names have a simple, timeless quality (like [name_f]Helen[/name_f]!) so even though they’re both dated it doesn’t bother me too much.
Some mn ideas:
[name_f]Elaine[/name_f] [name_f]Aviva[/name_f]
[name_f]Elaine[/name_f] [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f]
[name_f]Elaine[/name_f] [name_f]Cassandra[/name_f]
[name_f]Elaine[/name_f] [name_f]Catherine[/name_f]
[name_f]Elaine[/name_f] [name_f]Delilah[/name_f]
[name_f]Elaine[/name_f] [name_f]Fiona[/name_f]
[name_f]Elaine[/name_f] [name_f]Gemma[/name_f]
[name_f]Elaine[/name_f] [name_f]Isadora[/name_f]
[name_f]Elaine[/name_f] [name_f]Rebecca[/name_f]
[name_f]Elaine[/name_f] [name_u]Ruby[/name_u]
[name_f]Elaine[/name_f] [name_f]Theodora[/name_f]
I think for [name_f]Elaine[/name_f] you have to go for a more modern classic name, so that’s the vibe I tried to go for!
I’ve always really liked [name_f]Elain[/name_f] (a different, but similar sounding Welsh name) and my own name is [name_f]Helen[/name_f] and I’ve long been aware of the connection there. Its a very pretty and understated name, and all of the Authurian legends maidens and ladies with the name do lend it some very cool Medieval vibes. The nicknames [name_f]Ellie[/name_f] or [name_f]Lainey[/name_f] do make it more accessible for a kid these days, and I have always thought it would make a good middle name as it goes with most anything.
I think of as middle-age woman territory similar to [name_f]Susan[/name_f], [name_f]Linda[/name_f], etc. Making it into [name_f]Elaina[/name_f], though, gives it a whole new lease of life and the nicknames [name_f]Lainey[/name_f] (as someone mentioned above) and [name_f]Ella[/name_f] are lovely
Elaine is actually a favorite of mine! I never considered it to be too grandma and associated it with more popular [name_f]Elle[/name_f] or even similar to [name_f]Freya[/name_f]! Personally hate the alternative [name_f]Elaina[/name_f]! It’s a beautiful name I feel it should be more popular
Elaine is thoroughly lovely. I like the combination [name_f]Guinevere[/name_f] [name_f]Elaine[/name_f], inspired by the characters from the Arthurian legend.
I prefer [name_f]Elena[/name_f], [name_f]Elaine[/name_f] seems more dated. However, it’s beautiful too and it sounds really good as a middle name too. Congrats!

I like [name_f]Elaina[/name_f] as well, but ultimately prefer [name_f]Elena[/name_f] (though it’s pronounced a bit differently). It’s a great alternative!
I actually quite like [name_f]Elaine[/name_f]. I’m sure some people think it’s an old sounding name, but I think it’s elegant. I’ve considered it for a middle name for a long time, but have recently been thinking about it as a first name. I prefer to pronounce it more like eh-LANE than ee-LANE, but I think both are pretty.
Elaine is nice because it’s on the [name_f]Ellie[/name_f] trend without being obviously [name_f]Ellie[/name_f]. She could be [name_f]Elle[/name_f], [name_f]Ellie[/name_f], [name_f]Ella[/name_f], [name_u]Laine[/name_u], or [name_f]Lainey[/name_f].
Most pop culture references parents have will be lost on the new generation, good or bad.
