Thoughts on Elodie?

I know [name_f]Elodie[/name_f] is fairly popular on here, and I really like it as a name, however I’ve seen some negative opinions on it elsewhere.

Does anyone have an [name_f]Elodie[/name_f], and do you spell it as that or as Élodie? Does the name cause any issues?

I live in [name_f]France[/name_f], and the name was massively popular in the 80s/90s, do you think this would be an issue? Would it put you off? We’re probably going to move to [name_f]England[/name_f] in the next 10 years or so (I’m English), so I’m not sure if it’s that important.

I only heard the name 4-5 years ago and I instantly fell in love. I have never met an [name_f]Elodie[/name_f], but I would love to.

If you love it then go for it. [name_f]My[/name_f] husband has a name that was popular for a limited time and was seen as slightly dated when he was born but it’s never caused any issues.

I have a niece called [name_f]Elodie[/name_f] and she has a [name_u]French[/name_u] and an [name_f]English[/name_f] grandmother and she has only had a couple of people who have struggled with the pronunciation the first time they saw it.

I’ve heard in [name_f]France[/name_f] it’s kind of outdated, maybe similar to [name_f]Jennifer[/name_f], [name_f]Nicole[/name_f] or [name_f]Rebecca[/name_f].

Those are the only negative opinions I’ve heard. I think it’s stunning, it reminds me of [name_f]Melody[/name_f], but [name_f]Melody[/name_f] as a name feels outdated. [name_f]Elodie[/name_f] feels fresh and spunky and pretty.

I’ve never met an [name_f]Elodie[/name_f] in the UK but always wanted to.

[name_f]Elodie[/name_f] is absolutely gorgeous! So melodic and bubbly.

I’ve only come across one little [name_f]Elodie[/name_f] and she wore it well

I think it’s beautiful, Greyblue above described it well!

I like it. It was on my short list.

Me!
[name_f]My[/name_f] daughter has this name. We are in the UK and it’s been getting gradually more popular for a while. No É, just thought it would make it too complicated for her. It’s always had a good reaction from people saying it’s pretty and lots who’ve never heard it but obviously may be different in [name_f]France[/name_f].
I’ve spent time living in [name_f]France[/name_f] in the past so I french-accent it sometimes but mostly it’s just said like Elle-a-dee. Occasionally she gets [name_f]Eloise[/name_f] and I have to spell it for people but in general it doesn’t cause issues. We still absolutely love it and now have the difficulty of finding another we love for #2!

I like it and think it looks very pretty but wish it didn’t sound like LOD. I sort of prefer [name_f]Melody[/name_f] even though it’s a little dated. I wouldn’t use an accent. This is my US perspective though, so maybe not as relevant.

I love [name_f]Elodie[/name_f]! It’s so fresh and mellifluous.

It reminds me of [name_f]Heloise[/name_f] without being so historic a name and of melody without being so dated and risking “Mel” as a nickname.
