I would avoid another patronymic surname.
I was literally about to start a poll asking this! I’m considering [name]Emerson[/name] for a girl, I think it has a girly sound to it, like '[name]Emerald[/name]" but would be interested to hear what people think.
What about an I name? I agree, I wouldn’t go for another -son name, since you already have [name]Addison[/name]. I think something like [name]Ivy[/name] or [name]Isabelle[/name] would fit in with [name]Olivia[/name], [name]Addison[/name], and [name]Ella[/name] quite well. Or [name]Isla[/name]? Although [name]Ella[/name] and [name]Isla[/name] might be too much…
I like it, but prefer [name]Emory[/name]. Similar, but less masculine.
[name]Just[/name] makes me think of [name]Emerson[/name] College in [name]Boston[/name]. I would use [name]Emery[/name] over [name]Emerson[/name].
I don’t care for it (on either gender.) I second @celianne suggestion of [name]Emory[/name].
I like [name]Emory[/name] better as well. I know a little girl named Emeryn and that is a cute option too!
I do like [name]Emory[/name] as well. [name]Emerson[/name] feels a little dull next to your other kids’ names. And [name]Addison[/name] and [name]Emerson[/name] in the same sibset might be a little tricky.
I loved the name until someone pointed out to me that it sounds like an Appliance… Now all I think about when I hear the name are fridges, dishwashers and dryers.
I think it is too close to [name]Addison[/name].
I don’t mind [name]Emerson[/name] for a boy, but wouldn’t be crazy about it on a little lady. I also think [name]Emerson[/name] is quite similar sounding to [name]Addison[/name], if you are worried about that.
I would suggest something else to go nicely with [name]Olivia[/name], [name]Addison[/name], and [name]Ella[/name]…
Boy suggestions: Anything that doesn’t end with -a, or -on. Names like [name]Garret[/name], [name]Cole[/name], [name]Connor[/name], [name]Darcy[/name], [name]Hunter[/name]. I like Artikas but my tastes run a little on the wild side.
Girl suggestions: I think [name]Emory[/name] would be nice, or the similar [name]Amory[/name]. I also like [name]Ebony[/name]. Or you could go with something sweet like [name]Laurel[/name].
I dislike [name]Emerson[/name] on a girl for a couple reasons:
It’s a boy’s name. It’s harsh and masculine and the name of my great-uncle who had a very loud, gravelly voice and scratchy whiskers and there is absolutely nothing feminine or even unisex in this name or the image it conjures up.
Everyone who i see naming their daughters [name]Emerson[/name] is doing so as a "unique"alternative to [name]Emma[/name]/[name]Emme[/name]/[name]Emmy[/name], which are deemed too popular for them. They plan on using [name]Emma[/name]/[name]Emme[/name]/[name]Emmy[/name] as a nickname, which entirely defeats the purpose. If she’s going to go by [name]Emma[/name], she’ll still be [name]Emma[/name] G. in the classroom and you’ll still have 6 other kids turn when you yell out her name.
I’m biased against [name]Emerson[/name] as a girl’s name, as it’s a family name we considered for a boy, so it annoys me that it’s more popular for girls now!
But, I also think it sounds pretty unisex next to [name]Olivia[/name] and [name]Ella[/name]. And then it’s waay too similar to [name]Addison[/name] to my tastes–if you say them both fast quickly, they sound a lot a like. (Yet, somehow, [name]Addison[/name] is more feminine than [name]Emerson[/name] to me.)
I like [name]Emory[/name]. Or the suggestion of using an I name to round out your vowels…[name]Ivy[/name], [name]Iris[/name], [name]Isadora[/name] would all be adorable. I guess you could go for a U name, too, but I can’t think of any of those!
its uber trendy right now, but so are all of your other names
This is one of my pet peeve names. I detest it. It isn’t pretty, feminine, sweet, elegant etc. I do not get the appeal. Plus, I hate the surname/masculine names on girls trend.
I like [name]Emerson[/name]/Emersen, but I agree with others that I wouldn’t have an [name]Addison[/name] and an [name]Emerson[/name] in the same sibset.
I’d go with [name]Emery[/name] (not a fan of the “o” spelling). Have you thought about [name]Emilia[/name]? If you think that’s too close to [name]Olivia[/name], maybe [name]Emmeline[/name]?
I knew a girl named [name]Emma[/name] and I always called her [name]Emerson[/name]. [name]Emery[/name]/[name]Emory[/name] is a good NN for it. But with [name]Addison[/name], it doesn’t sound as great.
I like the name, go for it!
Fine for a boy where it belongs. Terrible for a girl.
