Thoughts on Este/Estée

Thoughts on Este/Estée!

  1. are the pronounced the same for you? which one do you like better if pronounced differently?
  2. do you like as a full name, or better as a nickname (for [name]Estelle[/name] or [name]Esther[/name])?
  3. Would [name]Eloise[/name] & Este/Estée be too similar for sisters?

And go!

I think of [name]Estee[/name] Lauder, unfortunately. [name]Even[/name] baring that, there’s something clipped and abrupt about it. I can’t really see myself ringing her up going, “Hey, is [name]Estee[/name] about?” I say them both ESS-tay, by the way. eh-STAY is slightly better. I think it works better as a nickname for [name]Estelle[/name].

I immediately thought Estée Lauder, but once you get over that association I think it’s a great name, maybe better as a nickname for [name]Estelle[/name]/[name]Esther[/name] just in case she/you don’t like the brand association

  1. yes
  2. I think it works as a full name, but I also love [name]Estelle[/name]!
  3. I do think [name]Eloise[/name] and Este are too close, unless you use it as a nn for something that does not begin with E such as [name]Celeste[/name]??

Oooooh I second this [name]Celeste[/name] would be a great way to get the nn Estée without having the double 'e’s

[name]Estee[/name] makes me think of [name]Estee[/name] Lauder (perfume/make up brand) so I personally wouldn’t use it, maybe as a nickname, also it is too close to [name]Eloise[/name].

My first thought (embarrassingly) was [name]Rob[/name] [name]Estes[/name] (I think he pronounces it ESS-tees), the (mostly horrible) actor. But after reading everyone else’s posts, I agree that [name]Estee[/name] Lauder would be the first thought in most normal people’s minds. It definitely sounds more like a nickname to me, but I think I would pronounce them the same way, though depending on my mood I might pronounce the first one ESS-tee instead. If you’re pronouncing it ESS-tee, I think it would be too similar for a sibset with [name]Eloise[/name], but prn ESS-tay, I think they seem different enough. [name]Just[/name] not really a fan of the name though. Seems too different from [name]Eloise[/name] in style.

I think of Estèe Lauder a lot as well but I actually think that association could be cute for a girl! I like it better as a NN for [name]Estelle[/name]/[name]Estella[/name] that way she has Mir options if she doesn’t like she association. I think it could be ok with Elosie depending on her NN.

Lauder.

nickname.

yes. [name]Estee[/name] and [name]Eloise[/name] would be too close for sisters

  1. I would pronounce them the same but I prefer the spelling of [name]Estee[/name]
  2. Like others, my thoughts immediately jump to [name]Estee[/name] Lauder and so I would use it more as a nickname in case she doesn’t want to have that association. I like [name]Estelle[/name] - that’s very pretty!
  3. Yes, they are much too similar [name]IMO[/name]

I [name]LOVE[/name] Este/[name]Estee[/name], so nice to see someone else considering it. I prefer Este for a boy and [name]Estee[/name] for a girl

Depending on your accent, it could be “es-tay”, “es-tee” or “es-teh”. I prefer Este “es-teh” (but it could be confused with [name]Esta[/name]) and for [name]Estee[/name] “es-tee”
I love it as a stand alone but I also like it as a nn for [name]Estelle[/name] or [name]Celeste[/name]
I don’t think [name]Eloise[/name] and Este are at all close

Going purely by English phonics…

Este - est (like the start of established)*
Estée - estay.

*OR esta (thinking of Lote and other Germanic names)

[name]Merci[/name] for all the fantastic feedback guys! Always love hearing your opinions!

The [name]Celeste[/name] idea is quite intriguing, as is the [name]Esta[/name] pronunciation. I go back and forth between [name]Esti[/name] and ess-tay depending on spelling. Though, I’d rather avoid the [name]Esti[/name] pn. since when said quickly, is a rather ubiquitous french swear word.

Thanks guys!

Thought I’d chime in on how much I love the name Estée. The association with the company is largely positive [name]IMO[/name] as they are known for being very pro-Israeli. I love it as a nickname for [name]Esther[/name] and [name]Estelle[/name], not so much [name]Celeste[/name]. [name]Hester[/name] & [name]Tempeste[/name] are plausible full names too.

I pronounce it EH-stay, this is the same way the Spanish word este and éste and even esté are said.
