I’m warming up to the name [name_u]Everett[/name_u]. It sounds gentle but handsome. I can picture it on a baby/toddler and an old man but I can’t quite picture it on a teen or adult. Also I’m not quite sure what style it falls under. So my questions are:
do you guys think [name_u]Everett[/name_u] ages well/general opinion?
what style is it?
Could you maybe list some similar boys and girls name that would make good sibling names?
[name_u]Everett[/name_u] is absolutely charming :).
He’s the 189th most popular boys’ name in the United States {2013 stats}.
Nameberry describes [name_u]Everett[/name_u] as “a statesmanlike, wintry [name_m]New[/name_m] [name_f]England[/name_f] name”.
“The [name_u]Baby[/name_u] Name [name_m]Wizard[/name_m]” categorizes him as an “antique charm” name.
His entry in the book says:
“Many of the stately gentleman names seem a bit sluggish. This one snaps to attention. [name_u]Everett[/name_u] is courtly but crisp and fully of life, an unbeatable combination.”
I love [name_u]Everett[/name_u]! It’s one of my favorites, so I think of a lot of my favorites as going with it–or names similar to some of my favorites–like [name_m]Calvin[/name_m], [name_m]Graham[/name_m], [name_m]Peter[/name_m], [name_m]Henry[/name_m], [name_m]Jack[/name_m], [name_m]Declan[/name_m], [name_m]Leo[/name_m], [name_m]Samuel[/name_m], [name_m]Hugo[/name_m], [name_m]Caleb[/name_m], [name_m]Julian[/name_m], [name_m]Grant[/name_m], [name_m]Dominic[/name_m], [name_u]Rory[/name_u], etc., for boys, and [name_f]Isabelle[/name_f], [name_f]Lillian[/name_f], [name_f]Emmeline[/name_f]/[name_f]Emilia[/name_f], [name_f]Tess[/name_f], [name_f]Grace[/name_f], [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f], [name_f]Audrey[/name_f], [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f], [name_f]Caroline[/name_f], etc. for girls.
I definitely can see it aging well! I can imagine it on a little boy and a teenager just fine; even a college-aged guy or a young adult. I find it harder to see a middle-aged man or an old man with the name, but I can still see it.
Thanks for all the feedback! I really like suggestions of [name_f]Caroline[/name_f], [name_f]Ivy[/name_f], [name_f]Josephine[/name_f], and [name_m]Silas[/name_m] as sibling names
About aging, I want to add that I have a 15 year old cousin named [name_u]Everett[/name_u] who wears it well. He is the only teen I know with the name (I know a few babies) and yet it is distinguished but not in-your-face unique. It’s a great classic choice. If he cared about anything besides baseball and girls, I think he would tell you the same!!
I love love love the name [name_u]Everett[/name_u]. If it didn’t wildly clash with our last name, it would be my top boy name with the nickname [name_m]Rhett[/name_m] (I’m a big Gone with the Wind fan too).
I agree with others - it’s a classic yet not boring or overly used. It’s sophisticated and handsome yet maintains its masculinity. It reminds me most of one of my favorite [name_u]Christmas[/name_u] movies, The Family [name_m]Stone[/name_m]. Look it up if you’re not familiar with it… the adult siblings are [name_m]Benjamin[/name_m] ([name_m]Ben[/name_m]), [name_u]Everett[/name_u], [name_f]Amy[/name_f], [name_f]Susannah[/name_f] and [name_m]Thaddeus[/name_m] ([name_m]Thad[/name_m]).
I also knew an [name_u]Everett[/name_u] in high school. He’s not the first thing I think of since I haven’t seen him since then, but he was a nice guy and on the varsity soccer team. I believe he’s an engineer or something now.
I think your naming style fits perfectly as siblings for [name_u]Everett[/name_u].
I really like [name_u]Everett[/name_u], too. When I hear it, I automatically hear “[name_m]Hitch[/name_m]” immediately after - as in, [name_u]Everett[/name_u] [name_m]Hitch[/name_m], the renowned gunslinger of [name_m]Robert[/name_m] B. [name_u]Parker[/name_u]'s Appaloosa novels. But it’s not a bad association at all. I’m surprised this name hasn’t been much more popular than it is. Kind of quietly masculine.
