thoughts on finley for a girl? [name_f]TIA[/name_f]

Completely adorable! I don’t think it is masculine by any stretch, and it has a lovely soft sound. Paired with the right MN it could be totally gorgeous!

I see it as a boys name and I’ve never heard it on a girl. Where I live the boys names ending in lee for girls trend isn’t a thing ([name_u]Riley[/name_u] and [name_u]Bailey[/name_u] are very much boys names here). I don’t find anything feminine about [name_u]Finley[/name_u] or the nickname [name_u]Finn[/name_u].

I don’t like [name_u]Finley[/name_u] for a girl; nn [name_m]Fin[/name_m] feels especially masculine.

I actually really like the feminine version of [name_u]Finley[/name_u] and the nick name [name_u]Finn[/name_u]. I think it is pretty adorable. It sounds fresh and new and could fit along side names like [name_u]Charlie[/name_u], [name_u]Frankie[/name_u], [name_u]Sammy[/name_u].

Personally not a fan, but it’s one of the less offensive unisex names.

No, not for a girl.

I’ve never met anybody named [name_u]Finley[/name_u], nor can I think of a single fictional character bearing the name, so I don’t have much of an opinion about it. It doesn’t sound feminine, but it doesn’t sound terribly masculine either. The [name_u]Finlay[/name_u] spelling definitely says girl though.

If you like it, I say go for it.

I’m not one to care about the boys-names-on-girls thing, but what would concern me about [name_u]Finley[/name_u]/[name_u]Finlay[/name_u] is the increasing popularity. Particularly now that there’s a [name_f]Star[/name_f] Wars character called [name_u]Finn[/name_u]. I’m all for unique boys names on girls, but I don’t think I’d call a girl [name_u]James[/name_u], [name_u]Arlo[/name_u] or [name_u]Finley[/name_u] when they’re already popular for boys.

To be honest, I prefer [name_u]Finley[/name_u] on a boy. Because all the [name_u]Finley[/name_u]'s I have know are boys.

I love it. It can be used for a girl or boy.

What about [name_m]Finnian[/name_m]?

I like it. I know of more girl [name_u]Finley[/name_u]'s than boys.

I don’t care for the name for a boy or a girl.

It sounds like more of a boy name though. But that doesn’t necessarily matter, lots of people use unisex names.

I don’t like [name_u]Finley[/name_u] on a girl. If you like the nickname [name_u]Finn[/name_u] for a girl, I’d prefer to get there from [name_f]Delphine[/name_f], [name_f]Josephine[/name_f], or [name_f]Serafina[/name_f] instead.

I think it’s okay for a girl, but not really my style.

[name_u]Lisa[/name_u] [name_f]Marie[/name_f] [name_u]Presley[/name_u] has a daughter named [name_u]Finley[/name_u] [name_m]Aaron[/name_m] [name_u]Love[/name_u], so it’s been used on a girl before. If you did decide to use it, I would pair it with a more feminine middle as I had to check whether [name_u]Lisa[/name_u] [name_f]Marie[/name_f]'s [name_u]Finley[/name_u] was a boy or a girl (couldn’t tell by looking at the name itself).

I don’t personally like it, but I wouldn’t be particularly shocked or surprised to meet a little female [name_u]Finley[/name_u]. Boys’ names on girls is a big trend at the moment, so I don’t think she’d stick out too much. I suppose [name_m]Fin[/name_m] is a pretty sweet nickname for a girl.

Not for a girl.

Personally I adore [name_u]Finlay[/name_u]/[name_u]Finley[/name_u] for a boy. I would also assume boy if I was reading a class list, etc.

It sounds more masculine to me than a lot of the -lee / -ley names. Must be the [name_u]Finn[/name_u] part. I’d assume boy but like PP said, it wouldn’t be shocking on a girl.

Like another poster, for some reason on a girl I like the [name_u]Finlay[/name_u] spelling more.

[name_f]Edit[/name_f]: even though she probably wouldn’t use her middle name in day to day life, I do think a clearly female middle name will make a big difference. [name_u]Finley[/name_u] [name_u]Sawyer[/name_u] is confusing, but [name_u]Finley[/name_u] [name_f]Caroline[/name_f] isn’t, just for example.
