What are your thoughts on the name [name_f]Gaia[/name_f]?
My mother’s (middle yet name she most often goes by) name is [name_f]Gai[/name_f] & I love both mythology and nature based names with a bit of quirk but are still fairly recognisable, so this name has been a contender for years, usually as a middle name - just now giving it a little more consideration, especially as a first. Also: Is using namesake [name_f]Gai[/name_f] ([name_u]GAY[/name_u]) for [name_f]Gaia[/name_f] confusing in regard to [name_f]Gaia[/name_f]'s pronunciation ([name_m]GYE[/name_m]-uh)?
Honestly, I think this name looks lovely written but have never really understood how to pronounce it. So, to answer your question - I think it would work no problem for the namesake but pronunciation will still need to be explained often. I was thinking it might be like [name_f]Gia[/name_f]. Hmmm… that being said, I do think its a nice choice and am always a fan of honor names.
I really like [name_f]Gaia[/name_f], since my favorite girl’s name is [name_f]Kaia[/name_f] and I have a lovely Italian friend named [name_f]Gaia[/name_f]. I don’t think the nickname [name_f]Gai[/name_f] would be confusing but I do think people would mispronounce it many times. I also like the fact that it is a honor name for you.
This is just my opinion, but I just can’t bring myself to like the name [name_f]Gaia[/name_f]. That seems strange to me because I like the mythology association, I like a lot of the names that rhyme with it ([name_f]Maia[/name_f], [name_f]Kaia[/name_f]), and I like the male name [name_m]Gaius[/name_m]. But I just don’t seem to care for [name_f]Gaia[/name_f]. I wonder if [name_f]Gaia[/name_f] just seems too masculine to me, maybe because of the “guy” sound that it starts with.
I do think [name_f]Gaia[/name_f] could work as an honor name for [name_f]Gai[/name_f], so if you feel moved to use the name, go ahead. There are no real problems with using the name beyond that fact that it just doesn’t strike me.
I love [name_f]Gaia[/name_f]! I think it’s so strong and majestic, without being at all fussy. I love the [name_f]Earth[/name_f] Mother connection too. It’s just gorgeous.
It definitely works as an honour name for [name_f]Gai[/name_f] (I think that’s what you’re asking?) since it’s written right there in the name.
[name_f]Gaia[/name_f] is stunning and a perfect way to honor! With the rising awareness of similar names like [name_f]Kaia[/name_f], I doubt there’ll be much trouble with pronouncing it. Can’t wait to hear your combos for it!!
I love [name_f]Gaia[/name_f]! What a wonderful goddess to be named after and associated with. I think it absolutely works as an honor name for your mother, even with the different pronunciation.
Very much fits as an honour name for [name_f]Gai[/name_f], it might need a second of explaining but I can’t see it raising further questions.
[name_f]Gaia[/name_f] is amazing, it is the name of the incessantly rebellious [name_f]Earth[/name_f] Mother. Perfect for a rebellious, nature-loving little girl
[name_f]Gaia[/name_f] feels glamorous and a bit mystical, due to the mythological association. It’s unusual but has familiar enough sounds not to sound too bizarre, and is straightforward enough that people should get it quickly even if they’ve never heard it before. I would be pleasantly surprised and find it interesting if I met a [name_f]Gaia[/name_f].
It makes me think of the character from The Casual Vacancy but I doubt many people will know of that, and even if they do, she’s not a bad character (has a darker/troubled side due to the type of story it is, but not a bad person).
Since your mother used [name_f]Gai[/name_f] as a nn, but pronounced it [name_u]Gay[/name_u], why don’t you use [name_f]Gaya[/name_f] and call her [name_u]Gay[/name_u]?
I thought [name_f]Gaia[/name_f] WAS [name_f]Gaya[/name_f] and maybe your grandparents did too. I can’t imagine a little girl called [name_m]Guy[/name_m] and a woman called [name_m]Guy[/name_m] would probably get laughed at.
