[name_m]How[/name_m] do you feel about the name [name_m]Graham[/name_m]? My husband recently suggested it and I’ve been debating. I like that its not super popular but still feels familiar (our two boys have timeless/common names). I prefer names that are easy to pronounce and spell and also easy to live with. Not sure that [name_m]Graham[/name_m] fits that. Thoughts? Thanks in advance!
I really like [name_m]Graham[/name_m]! I think that everyone who speaks English would have no problem pronouncing it. [name_m]Grant[/name_m] might be easier for people who aren’t as familiar with [name_m]Graham[/name_m] or if you want a name that will never be misspelled. Best of luck!
You won’t believe it, but I was thinking about [name_m]Graham[/name_m] just now, and then I opened Nameberry and saw your thread.
I really like [name_m]Graham[/name_m], it feels very friendly and familiar but not overdone. It also makes me think of [name_m]Graham[/name_m] Chapman - a positive association, if you ask me, as he was one of the best comedians of the 20th century. As for mispronunciations, I’ve only heard a couple of people mispronounce it, and they were not native English speakers.
In my mind, [name_m]Graham[/name_m] is the name of an older man, I had a boyfriend at school (20 years ago!) who was called [name_m]Graham[/name_m] and even back then it was an old fashioned name. Maybe it’ll make a come back, but I can’t imagine a baby [name_m]Graham[/name_m], although I do love [name_u]Gray[/name_u].
There are two common pronunciations of [name_m]Graham[/name_m] among English speakers, but that’s true of many names: [name_m]Craig[/name_m] and [name_f]Clara[/name_f] are pronounced differently in the USA and Australia, for instance.
I wouldn’t let that worry you. It’s unlikely to be an issue until/unless he moves to another country and it’s easy enough to correct him if he’s bothered by it.
I’d be a little surprised to meet a baby [name_m]Graham[/name_m] here in Australia, but it’s ranked 183 in the USA, so it’s certainly not unusual or strange if you live there.
Stylistically, it reminds me of names like [name_m]Grant[/name_m], [name_m]Warren[/name_m], [name_m]Raymond[/name_m], [name_m]Colin[/name_m] and [name_m]Jeffrey[/name_m] (though, of course, it might have a different ‘feel’ where you live)
Really like this name! I imagine [name_m]Graham[/name_m] to be a kind, smart, English lawyer.
