I recently posted a thread asking for suggestions to help my sister keep our family name ([name_m]Hall[/name_m]) going with her new addition and it got her creative gears going and she came up with Hallyn. She’s wanting opinions and possible middle name matches? She’s wanting something extremely simple! We’d [name_u]LOVE[/name_u] to hear from you guys!
I don’t like Hallyn
I don’t like it and I don’t like that it’s not a real name. Sorry.
[name_f]Do[/name_f] you like [name_f]Hallie[/name_f]/[name_u]Halle[/name_u] (like [name_u]Halle[/name_u] [name_f]Berrie[/name_f], I always liked the name)? It is simple and still has [name_m]Hall[/name_m] in the name but it’s pronounced differently.
[name_f]Hallie[/name_f] [name_u]Rain[/name_u]
[name_f]Hallie[/name_f] [name_u]Sky[/name_u]
[name_f]Hallie[/name_f] [name_f]Kate[/name_f]
Oh i love Hallyn
its is a perfect way to honour the family while still being and really nice name plus the nickname [name_f]Hally[/name_f] is cute
Hallyn with the nick name [name_f]Hally[/name_f] would be cute. With maybe a one syllable middle to keep it simple.
I like the virtue names with Hallyn
Hallyn [name_u]Love[/name_u]
Hallyn [name_f]Grace[/name_f]
Hallyn [name_f]Faith[/name_f]
It’s not my personal style, but I do like the idea of carrying on a family name and getting creative with it. Like some others, I prefer [name_f]Hallie[/name_f], but that would also be a good nickname for Hallyn.
Since Hallyn won’t be familiar to people, I would go with something that’s familiar and clearly feminine in the middle. I think your sister is smart to want something simple:
Hallyn [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f]
Hallyn [name_f]Claire[/name_f] - my favorite
Hallyn [name_f]Jane[/name_f]
Hallyn [name_f]Joelle[/name_f]
Hallyn [name_f]Mia[/name_f]
Hallyn [name_f]Rachel[/name_f]
Hallyn [name_f]Ella[/name_f]
Hallyn [name_f]Elise[/name_f]
Good luck!
I kind of like it but I’d be inclined to pronounce it [name_m]Hal[/name_m]-lyn at a glance. [name_f]Hallie[/name_f]/[name_u]Halle[/name_u] is a good compromise. Or she could go with [name_f]Holly[/name_f]/Hollen/Hollyn with [name_m]Hall[/name_m] being the inspiration behind it. Best of luck!
I would have a really hard time with the name Hallyn. I’m not a fan of made up names, but this isn’t too too bad in the sense it’s already similar to many names in common use…but maybe too common, as if I heard this, I’d think someone was saying [name_u]Fallon[/name_u], [name_m]Hal[/name_m] Inn (like a Fn/LN), or [name_f]Helen[/name_f] in a weird accent. If I managed to understand what they were saying, I’d have no idea if I should spell it Halyn, Halan, Halen, Hallin, or a hundred other variations.
I’d be more inclined to do something like [name_u]Halle[/name_u] [name_u]Lynn[/name_u] or another more established, recognizavle FN, and a [name_u]Lynn[/name_u] or [name_f]Lin[/name_f]-/-lyn middle, and use Hallyn as a NN if she really loved the sound. Or just use [name_f]Helen[/name_f] or [name_u]Fallon[/name_u]
ETA I wrote this whole post without realizing you’d pronounce this [name_m]Hall[/name_m]-inn. I’d never ever get that right, I’d say it [name_m]Hal[/name_m]-[name_u]Lynn[/name_u]. I think [name_m]Hall[/name_m] [name_u]Lynn[/name_u] as a double first would be the only way to get the pronounciation you’re looking for.
Though I really like the idea of keeping family names, Hallyn may often be mispronouced. I assumed it was pronounced like [name_u]Fallon[/name_u]/[name_f]Fallyn[/name_f] so a [name_m]Hal[/name_m]-lin not [name_m]Hall[/name_m]-in. Maybe [name_u]Halle[/name_u]/[name_f]Hallie[/name_f], Or even [name_f]Holly[/name_f]. However its on trend with many other names now a days and would work in society. You could also put Hallyn as a middle name as well and pick a different first name such as (just examples) [name_f]Olivia[/name_f] Hallyn, [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] Hallyn etc.
Middle names ideas:
Hallyn [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f]
Hallyn [name_u]Leigh[/name_u]
Hallyn [name_f]Grace[/name_f]
Hallyn [name_f]Rose[/name_f]
Hallyn [name_f]Emily[/name_f]
Hallyn [name_f]Emma[/name_f]
Hallyn [name_f]Marie[/name_f]
Hallyn [name_f]Noelle[/name_f]
Hallyn [name_f]Nicole[/name_f]
Good [name_m]Luck[/name_m]!
[name_m]Don[/name_m]'t like it. I’d pronounce it ‘hal-lyn’ instead of ‘hall-en’. It also looks trendy & made-up because of the unnecessary Y. The spelling Hallan is more likely to get the pronunciation she wants.
I agree with the other posters’ suggestion of [name_u]Halle[/name_u] (not [name_f]Hallie[/name_f], it will be pronounce ‘hal-ee’)
Or why not just make [name_m]Hall[/name_m] the mn & the 2nd mn?
I think it fits well enough with other established names that are popular these days, so that makes it a good invented name. But I agree with everyone who says the pronunciation is bound to cause problems. I would assume [name_m]HAL[/name_m]-lin, or even HAIL-in like a variation on [name_f]Hayley[/name_f]/[name_f]Hailey[/name_f].
She actually likes pronouncing it [name_m]HAL[/name_m]-en instead of HOL because of the struggle pronouncing it. It’s more important to her that our family name doesn’t change its spelling on paper! (Personal preference, I guess, lol!) Thanks so much for the input
I second the suggestion of using [name_m]Hall[/name_m] as a middle name.
