I’ve seen this popping up here and there and it has piqued my interest. Usually I go and do a forum search when I’m curious about a name, but this one didn’t yield much return so here we are!
What are your thoughts – general impressions, ratings, leave it in the middle – whatever you want to give me on this name.
Nickname [name_m]Hawk[/name_m]? I’ve seen this nickname associated with [name_m]Hawthorne[/name_m]. Part of me gets it and part of me doesn’t, maybe because I prefer it over the other nickname options and I have a soft spot for [name_m]Huck[/name_m]?
Middle names for [name_m]Hawthorne[/name_m]? Only suggest if you think the combo sounds really good! I have drawn a complete blank and everything I’ve pair in my brain sounds weird.
I named my own son [name_m]Hawthorne[/name_m], just 15 months ago.
I haven’t once regretted the choice. Its a great unique name with a classic sound. Its recognizable, easy to remember, and shortens adorably to Hawke. We had a hard time coming up with a middle name, but in the end, we just chose to use our other top boy name, because this will be our last baby (we also have a 4 year old daughter, named [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f]). It was tied for the top spot for us with the name [name_m]Sebastian[/name_m], which we had a hard time thinking of a nick name. So we combined the two and named him [name_m]Hawthorne[/name_m] [name_m]Sebastian[/name_m].
We often call him Hawke Bash for short, because he’s a toddler now and, well, Hawke does Bash! Ha!
That said, if you do really like the name, I say go with it. Very few people have said they HATE the name and most people actually complement me on how cool it is. With my DDs name, I compromised and went with a more contemporary name and I’ve regretted it everyday since.
I love [name_m]Hawthorne[/name_m]! … I also have a soft spot for nature names, lol. I definitely prefer [name_m]Huck[/name_m] to [name_m]Hawk[/name_m], too. As for middle names my mind immediately jumped to [name_m]Jupiter[/name_m], because you’ll often find [name_u]Juniper[/name_u] paired with [name_m]Hawthorne[/name_m] in gardens, and I loooove planet/celestial names but I’m afraid [name_m]Hawthorne[/name_m] [name_m]Jupiter[/name_m] might be a little out there! If you’re looking for another nature name, [name_m]Hawthorne[/name_m] [name_m]Basil[/name_m] is nice, [name_m]Hawthorne[/name_m] [name_u]Green[/name_u] is kinda catchy, or if one nature name is enough, I like [name_m]Hawthorne[/name_m] [name_m]Beckett[/name_m], [name_m]Hawthorne[/name_m] [name_u]Elias[/name_u], and [name_m]Hawthorne[/name_m] [name_m]Marcellus[/name_m].
[name_m]Hawthorne[/name_m] is beyond handsome! I also love the nature connection.
I’ve been toying with the idea of [name_m]Raphael[/name_m] [name_m]Hawthorne[/name_m]/[name_m]Hawthorne[/name_m] [name_m]Raphael[/name_m]. It sounds so dashing!
Totally use [name_m]Hawthorne[/name_m],if I was going that direction Id consider it fully.
Hawthrone is interesting because iT looks like more syllables than it is.
But I almost always prefer the sound of either two syllable then one syllable or two syllable and then three syllable.
[name_m]Hawthorne[/name_m] Thrace
[name_m]Hawthorne[/name_m] [name_m]Josiah[/name_m]
Vs [name_m]Hawthorne[/name_m] [name_m]Conrad[/name_m].
But it really depends on your last name.
[name_m]Hawthorne[/name_m] Thrace McRiley
[name_m]Hawthorne[/name_m] Thrace [name_m]Brand[/name_m]
[name_m]Hawthorne[/name_m] Thrace [name_m]Johnson[/name_m].
So I like the sound of
[name_m]Hawthorne[/name_m] [name_m]Josiah[/name_m] [name_m]Brand[/name_m]
It flows well.
[name_m]Hawthorne[/name_m] Thrace McRiley
So my choices are
[name_m]Hawthorne[/name_m] Thrace ([name_u]James[/name_u] is also a good one syllable) if you have a lengthy last name.
One syllable last name.
[name_m]Josiah[/name_m] ( or another three syllable name.
yrenolds: Thank you! It is always especially awesome to get feedback from someone who has personal experience with the name!
I think what I like about [name_m]Hawthorne[/name_m] is that while it is a nature name it’s not obviously so, it’s also a literary name ([name_m]Nathaniel[/name_m] [name_m]Hawthorne[/name_m]). It’s a beautiful tree, one that I have personal experience with, and as a name I find it quite handsome. And I do like [name_m]Hawk[/name_m].
Handsallover: [name_m]Hawthorne[/name_m] [name_m]Raphael[/name_m] / [name_m]Raphael[/name_m] [name_m]Hawthorne[/name_m] is great! It sounds good with some international flair to it.
theirishsaint: [name_m]Hawthorne[/name_m] does look longer than it actually is, which is kinda of neat! Last name is double barreled each name comprised of 2 syllables, but seeing as he’d only go by his first and last name, I’m not overly concerned with the flow from middle to last as much.
[name_m]Hawthorne[/name_m] is very handsome! I immediately thought of the [name_m]Hawk[/name_m] nn possibility before even reading your post.
I tend to like short names so I will suggest short middle names.
[name_m]Hawthorne[/name_m] [name_m]Fox[/name_m]
[name_m]Hawthorne[/name_m] [name_u]Reid[/name_u]
[name_m]Hawthorne[/name_m] [name_m]Stone[/name_m]
[name_m]Hawthorne[/name_m] [name_u]Bay[/name_u]
[name_m]Hawthorne[/name_m] [name_u]Reid[/name_u] has a nice sound. I’m just a little weary of using other word names with [name_m]Hawthorne[/name_m]. Also like [name_m]Omri[/name_m]'s [name_m]Hawthorne[/name_m] [name_m]Vance[/name_m] (and I kind of like the idea of my kids sharing a special letter middle initial).
Here are some middle names I’ve been toying with (I do like [name_m]Hawthorne[/name_m] [name_u]James[/name_u], [name_m]Hawthorne[/name_m] [name_u]Elias[/name_u], [name_m]Hawthorne[/name_m] [name_m]Josiah[/name_m]): I really like the way [name_m]Hawthorne[/name_m] [name_m]Leandro[/name_m] / [name_m]Leander[/name_m] sounds, but it doesn’t fit any of my usual “name rules” for middles. It’s not the easiest fn to work with and I keep finding myself with two syllable mns. [name_m]Hawthorne[/name_m] makes a versatile middle though.
Scandinavian names are also ways to honor my family’s heritage (DD mn honors father’s side so next darling will honor mine). Not worried about others properly pronouncing these as much:
[name_m]Hawthorne[/name_m] Jarle / Jarl – YAHR-ley / Yahrl – Jarle reminds me of [name_u]Charlie[/name_u], making this a possible nod to [name_m]Charles[/name_m].
[name_m]Hawthorne[/name_m] Sveinn / [name_m]Sven[/name_m]
[name_m]Hawthorne[/name_m] [name_m]Kustaa[/name_m] / [name_m]Gustav[/name_m] – KOOS-tah /
[name_m]Hawthorne[/name_m] Trygve – [name_m]TRIG[/name_m]-vey
[name_m]Hawthorne[/name_m] [name_m]Brandt[/name_m] – from “Brandr”
[name_m]Hawthorne[/name_m] Aleksander
[name_m]Hawthorne[/name_m] [name_m]Leif[/name_m] – rhymes with “Safe” not as in “leaf”
[name_m]Hawthorne[/name_m] [name_m]Mikkel[/name_m] – MIH-kehl
[name_m]Hawthorne[/name_m] [name_m]Oskari[/name_m] – OS-kah-ree
I like [name_m]Hawthorne[/name_m] but I don’t like [name_m]Hawk[/name_m] or [name_m]Huck[/name_m]. [name_m]Hawthorne[/name_m] feels soft to me & those nn feel too brash. I like [name_m]Thor[/name_m] or [name_m]Thorn[/name_m].
I don’t like the sound at the beginning of [name_m]Hawthorne[/name_m] (at least the way I say it it sounds like a not nice word), so I could never use it, but if you like it then go for it.
