I’m not expecting or anything but I was just wondering what people think of names like JJ, AJ, DJ and so on.
I really like some of them like [name_m]Jackson[/name_m] [name_u]Jay[/name_u] “JJ”, [name_m]Kellan[/name_m] [name_u]Jay[/name_u] “KJ” and [name_m]Archie[/name_m] [name_m]Joseph[/name_m] “AJ”.
I like initials as nicknames, like [name_m]Jacob[/name_m] [name_u]James[/name_u] “JJ” or [name_f]Amanda[/name_f] [name_f]Joy[/name_f] “AJ”, but straight up naming your child CJ and not making it short for anything I don’t like (and I know people who are named things like that - something about sticking two letters on a kid’s birth certificate just baffles me).
I was thinking about initial nns recently. I seem to prefer them a little more for girls, although it depends on the initials and sometimes associations. JJ I like for girls or boys, and TJ just for girls. I’m warming to MJ after watching Spider-[name_m]Man[/name_m]: Homecoming haha. Definitely as nns not full names though, and I’m not so concerned with them that I’d go looking for a combo to give an initial nn (at least not yet).
I’m not a massive fan personally (I just prefer other nicknames) but I am warming up to a few (JJ for a girl, mainly after following [name_u]Jensen[/name_u] Ackles and his eldest daughter [name_u]Justice[/name_u] [name_u]Jay[/name_u] “JJ”). My friend’s nickname is CJ, actually. However, I don’t like literally using initials as full names.
I’m not a big fan of them. Especially AJ, because there’s a town where I live that people abbreviate to AJ, and it’s kind of a junky town. The only initial nn I really like is PJ, because I knew a guy named a PJ, I’m not even sure what his real name was and it fit him so well.
I love them, more so on girls than boys (I find them so chavvy on boys here, but fresh on a girl). I recently had a signature dedicated to finding longer versions for AJ, JJ and DJ. These are my favourite initial nicknames.
The only one I like and would consider using is DJ. I wouldn’t just put two initials on my child’s birth certificate, but I would make it short for something (like DJ [name_m]Tanner[/name_m] from [name_m]Fuller[/name_m] House; her real name is [name_f]Donna[/name_f] [name_u]Jo[/name_u]).
I like JJ, AJ, and TT (Had a [name_u]Tristan[/name_u] [name_m]Thomas[/name_m] “TT” in my class in the first years of school and he wore the name so well) but like other posters have said, I would use [name_m]Jasper[/name_m] [name_u]James[/name_u] “JJ”, [name_f]Aria[/name_f] [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] “AJ”, etc.
My brother’s best friend in primary school was called Teejay… We thought it was TJ, short for something. But nope, Teejay. His cousin’s name? Ceejay. shudder Apparently the sisters were pregnant around the same time and thought it would be ADORABLE.
I like it as a nickname, but not as a full name. I knew of a girl once whose name was [name_u]Casey[/name_u] spelt KC. Awful!
But yes, as a nickname I think it’s really cute! I may even call my future daughter [name_f]Essie[/name_f] as a nickname as her first two initials will be ‘S.E’.
