What do you think of this name on its own, not short for [name_f]Jennifer[/name_f] or anything?
Too bland for my taste, I just don’t get any vibe from it. I’m not a big fan of [name_f]Jennifer[/name_f] either so I guess that also affects my opinion
It definitely works as a standalone (I know one), but I have to agree that it’s feeling a little bit bland at this point. I actually prefer [name_f]Jennifer[/name_f], and feel like [name_f]Jennifer[/name_f] in full would actually be pretty refreshing on a little one (or [name_f]Jenifry[/name_f], another Cornish variant).
As far as nickname-ish names go, I like [name_f]Jenny[/name_f] more than [name_f]Jennifer[/name_f] (but not as much as [name_f]Genevieve[/name_f]). Since [name_f]Jenny[/name_f] is becoming less common (in the US), it might be refreshing.
I know a [name_f]Jenny[/name_f] who is just [name_f]Jenny[/name_f] - I think I prefer it to any longer versions. It’s cute and ages well.
I know so many women named [name_f]Jennifer[/name_f]… One of them actually just moved into a house with roommates… The women talked beforehand, but weren’t friends before meeting online for a house-sharing arrangement. I kid you not, this house is made up of 3 roommates, all named [name_f]Jennifer[/name_f].
Jenny, on it’s own, feels overused to me, even tho I’ve never met someone whose name is just [name_f]Jenny[/name_f]… I still hear/see it and think, “Ok, cool… Another one.”
(Which doesn’t mean I dislike it, it’s still a beautiful name, I just prefer naming babies with something I don’t hear every day)
But, on the other hand, I am a fan of nicknames as full names for girls… Like [name_u]Sam[/name_u], [name_u]Max[/name_u], [name_f]Maggie[/name_f], to name a few… So I give [name_f]Jenny[/name_f] a 4/10
It definitely works on its own. Unfortunately, I find it dull and bland, as well as dated. It hasn’t reached a point where it can sound fresh again.
I like the spelling [name_f]Jennie[/name_f]!
I know I stand alone on this here on Nameberry but I definitely think [name_f]Jenny[/name_f] is ready for a revival! I agree that [name_f]Jennifer[/name_f] and [name_f]Jen[/name_f] are super overdone (I can think of SO many in my immediate social circle) but I only know of one woman who goes by [name_f]Jenny[/name_f].
Jenny/Jennie on its own was very popular in the late 1800s, so I think it fits in with the Violets/Hazels/Edies, etc on playgrounds nowadays. [name_f]Jenny[/name_f] strikes me as a very farm-bred, wholesome sort of name. I like the idea of it as a nickname for [name_f]Imogen[/name_f] or [name_f]Jessamyn[/name_f].
Unpopular opinion: I actually love the name [name_f]Jenny[/name_f]! I think it’s not overly “cute” and can definitely stand on its own.
It can stand on its own but it was so overused a few years ago that it has lost its sparkle for many, although nothing wrong with the name if you love it. [name_m]How[/name_m] about [name_f]Ginny[/name_f] ([name_f]Geneva[/name_f], [name_f]Genevieve[/name_f], etc.) as it feels fresher IMO.
I’m a [name_m]Just[/name_m] [name_f]Molly[/name_f] and honestly I don’t mind the “is it short for XYZ?” comments but I would’ve liked a longer name. And my name isn’t quite as nickname-y as [name_f]Jenny[/name_f]. So that’s something to consider.
That said, it’s definitely usable. I prefer it to [name_f]Jennifer[/name_f], too.
I think [name_f]Jenny[/name_f] is cute, but I like to have a formal name as well. If you’re not keen on [name_f]Jennifer[/name_f] you could do [name_f]Genevieve[/name_f] too. If you like nickname names, there’s no problem with just [name_f]Jenny[/name_f].
I think [name_f]Jenny[/name_f] on it’s own is far nicer than [name_f]Jennifer[/name_f], although that may be because I’m British and nicknames as full names are incredibly common here.
I don’t love it but it’s okay
I love the name [name_f]Jenny[/name_f]. I know a lot of the. But they are all in their late twenties or older - so I think it would be refreshing on a baby.
[name_f]Jenni[/name_f] [name_f]Jacqueline[/name_f]
[name_f]Jenny[/name_f] [name_f]Claire[/name_f]
[name_f]Jenny[/name_f] [name_f]Mae[/name_f]
Jenny can defiantly be a stand alone name.
Jennifer/Jenny just seems dated (70s/80s) to me. And I don’t think its ready for a comeback yet.
I find it a bit dull sorry. However I do love alternatives such as [name_f]Jenna[/name_f] and [name_f]Jemima[/name_f].
I like [name_f]Jenni[/name_f] and [name_f]Jenna[/name_f] as names on their own. I think with [name_f]Jenny[/name_f] people expect there to be a longer name and less so with [name_f]Jenni[/name_f] or [name_f]Jennie[/name_f].
It’s just so dated. And not in the cute, vintage way, in a “let’s leave it alone for a few decades and come back” kinda way.
