I love it on paper, but I’m afraid it will sound like I’m saying [name_m]John[/name_m] [name_m]Quill[/name_m] fast if I call it out. I love that it’s a flower name, but chic & sleek, totally uncommon and no grandma vibes or hippie vibes that a lot of flower names seem to have (not that I am totally against those vibes!) BUT I feel like I would regret it if it caused constant confusion or seemed pretentious or something. WDYT?
We had jonquils growing up and I was absolutely planning to have three daughters and name them [name_f]Jonquil[/name_f], [name_f]Amaryllis[/name_f], and [name_f]Jessamine[/name_f]. Now I think 3 flower names is maybe a little much, but I still think it’s beautiful name.
I think pronounciation is fairly obvious. She probably will have to spell it, but that is true of most names. I don’t think it sounds pretentious at all.
[name_f]Jonquil[/name_f] has been growing on me lately! I don’t think pronunciation will be a problem, and it is not pretentious, but unique and beautiful. Great choice!
I like [name_f]Jonquil[/name_f] a lot. If I am not mistaken, it’s a [name_m]Fitzgerald[/name_m] name. I find it not pretentious but chic and sweet.
Thank you for the positive feedback!
[name_m]How[/name_m] is it pronounced? I’ve never heard of this name and in my head it sounds very clunky (Jonkeel).
It is a [name_m]Fitzgerald[/name_m] name, but I have never rad the book it’s from; The Sensible Thing. I say it [name_m]JON[/name_m]-quil with a slight emphasis on the [name_m]Jon[/name_m] part, I say a slightly soft J sort like in the name JonBenet for lack of a better American reference!
