So, the thing is I do like the name. I mean, I think is as good as names like [name_m]Thomas[/name_m], [name_m]Daniel[/name_m] or [name_m]Gregory[/name_m]. Traditional and familiar. But… I also have the slightly feeling that is too plain (what is also kind of stupid because my favorite boys names are [name_m]Jack[/name_m], [name_m]Henry[/name_m] and [name_m]Theodore[/name_m]). I like [name_u]Joey[/name_u] and Seph as nicknames, even [name_u]Josie[/name_u]. (Not very fan of [name_m]Joe[/name_m])
What do you think? [name_f]Do[/name_f] you like it? [name_f]Do[/name_f] you think [name_m]Joseph[/name_m] fits next to [name_m]Jack[/name_m], [name_m]Henry[/name_m] and [name_m]Theodore[/name_m]? [name_f]Do[/name_f] you know any version of [name_m]Joseph[/name_m] that you like? Which middle name would you use?
I like [name_m]Joseph[/name_m] in full. [name_m]Don[/name_m]’t like any of the nicknames, shame to because it seems like any [name_m]Joseph[/name_m] will automatically get shortened to [name_m]Joe[/name_m], in my experience at least. I love [name_m]Joseph[/name_m] with [name_m]Henry[/name_m] or [name_m]Theodore[/name_m], not so much with [name_m]Jack[/name_m] for some reason…
I love [name_m]Joseph[/name_m]. It goes well with other names you mention, though a bit matchy with [name_m]Jack[/name_m], but it would still work.
Choosing a classic name allows for a mn that’s more “out there”. You could use a quilty pleasure as [name_m]Joseph[/name_m] is so big on its own it can carry an unusual mn.
[name_m]Joe[/name_m] is not a bad nickname, I like [name_u]Joey[/name_u] also.
I love [name_m]Joseph[/name_m]. It’s so classic and handsome. I do think most men named [name_m]Joseph[/name_m] will inevitably become [name_m]Joe[/name_m], so I’d be sure you’re okay with that before using it.
I like [name_m]Joseph[/name_m]! It goes well with the names you listed and I don’t find it plain at all; it’s very handsome. My personal favorite nickname for it is Zeph.
As for middle names, I think [name_m]Joseph[/name_m] [name_m]Levi[/name_m] or [name_m]Joesph[/name_m] [name_m]Archer[/name_m] sound nice.
I prefer nontraditional names, so I don’t care for [name_m]Joseph[/name_m].
I know several & most of the younger ones (30 & under) go by their full name; their parents didn’t allow a nn. My favorite nn for [name_m]Joseph[/name_m] is [name_u]Jody[/name_u] or Pep
I love [name_m]Joseph[/name_m]! I don’t think it needs a nickname, but I have also seen [name_m]Josh[/name_m] used and I think that could work well with your other sons’ names.
I prefer Josiah. I think it sounds more musical and doesn’t tend to get shortened to Joe/Joey like Joseph does.
I realize that it has a different feel culturally from Joseph. Although both are Hebrew names, Joseph has long been used by Christians while Josiah read as Jewish until recently becoming more popular among Christians. I like that aspect of Josiah, but I realize your taste runs towards names that have long-standing use by Protestants. I do think Joseph invariably becomes Joe(y) unless in the middle spot. I think Theodore Joseph and Henry Joseph make great combos.
I looove the name [name_m]Joseph[/name_m]!! I would have used it, except for I already have a cousin named [name_m]Joseph[/name_m] who I’m close enough to that I wouldn’t reuse, but not close enough that I would want him to think the child had been named for him.
Anyways, [name_m]Joseph[/name_m] is totally an underused classic. As its own thing, [name_m]Joseph[/name_m] is great but I also love [name_m]Joe[/name_m] and Seph like you said. Would not go for [name_u]Josie[/name_u], though - way too feminine for me.
Thank you all! I feel I bit more confident now with [name_m]Joseph[/name_m], and @harling, [name_m]Joseph[/name_m] [name_m]Archer[/name_m] is lovely! I like it because honors a very special relative. @nat108, [name_m]Pepe[/name_m] was the nickname of this relative I want to honor, Pep is really cute. @mayday, I never thought my taste runs towards “Protestants” names, curious thing, as I don’t believe in any god. I don’t like [name_m]Josiah[/name_m]. In fact, there’s only a couple of -iah names that I like.
Many years ago I would have felt that [name_m]Joseph[/name_m] was boring, but not anymore. I really like it now. I am even warming up to [name_m]Joe[/name_m], which I also hadn’t like before. But I like [name_u]Joss[/name_u] as a nm more. Seph is also good.
