Thoughts on Jovi for a boy?

I have stumbled upon the name [name_u]Jovi[/name_u] while looking for a name for our third (unknown gender). I really love the sound of [name_u]Jovi[/name_u].

Hubby needs a bit of convincing but didn’t say no outright. His choice is [name_u]Bailey[/name_u].

I know we would get the odd Bon [name_u]Jovi[/name_u] reference but lots of names come with associations.

Thoughts? Finding a boys name for our third has been very very challenging.

I posted the other day
Siblings are [name_u]Indiana[/name_u] (f), and [name_u]Tully[/name_u] (m).

I immediately thought, “That’s very Bon Jovi.” Im not opposed to the name; that association, however, just feels really strong. On the other hand, I actually really like it with your older two’s names!

I think Jovi sounds really good with your other children’s names. I’m also partial to Jodi for a boy (Jodie? Jody?).

Too true! My son is Beck and people often made a comment about the singer or David Beckham. If you don’t find an association negative and/or very annoying I don’t think it should be a deal breaker on a name you love. I’d cringe slightly at the David Beckham association but then it was over and done with

I like how it sounds with our other names too. I think it fits in with the musician inspiration of the last few years - [name_u]Hendrix[/name_u], [name_u]Jagger[/name_u], [name_u]Bowie[/name_u] etc.

Thanks for your reply

I think it works well. I would lean into the Bon [name_u]Jovi[/name_u] thing as that’s where it’s come from/ how it’s in the ether (as distinct from [name_f]Jovie[/name_f] for a girl). I don’t mean you have to tell people it’s after him, but I would say it’s a muso name like others. I prefer it to [name_u]Bailey[/name_u] for sure - I think [name_u]Beckett[/name_u] or [name_u]Brooks[/name_u] would be be better than [name_u]Bailey[/name_u].

[name_u]Love[/name_u] [name_u]Jovi[/name_u]! I always loved it as a nickname for [name_m]Jovan[/name_m]! It’s lovely and I think it goes well with your other children’s names. [name_u]Bailey[/name_u] is also wonderful!

I knew a [name_u]Jovi[/name_u] in college! He was a lovely guy and very friendly, nothing but good associations and I never once thought of Bon [name_u]Jovi[/name_u] to be honest, and I love Bon [name_u]Jovi[/name_u]!

It’s an unexpected and fun choice. I think it would be a great addition to your set if your husband warms to it. I do wonder if some people might call [name_u]Jovi[/name_u] ‘Jo’ in that casual conversational way. You could also have [name_u]Jojo[/name_u] or [name_u]Joey[/name_u]. I think both are quite sweet on a little one.

Congratulations!
I think [name_u]Jovi[/name_u] is great, and I love it with your older 2 ! [name_f]My[/name_f] first thought was [name_u]Jovial[/name_u] so it makes me think it’s a very happy name.

[name_f]My[/name_f] only hesitation is it may be misheard and you may be clarifying that it isn’t [name_u]Joey[/name_u], [name_u]Jordy[/name_u] or [name_u]Jody[/name_u] ( I actually love [name_u]Jody[/name_u] for a boy) . If you can live with correction and clarification I would say go for it.

I’m not big on [name_u]Bailey[/name_u]. But I think if your looking for come compromise [name_m]Briggs[/name_m] , [name_u]Brooks[/name_u] & [name_u]Bowie[/name_u] could be a good spot to meet at . They feel musical like [name_u]Jovi[/name_u] but have the B from [name_u]Bailey[/name_u] .

Thank you for your reply, I agree it’s unexpected but doesn’t sound too out there to me! [name_f]My[/name_f] husband said the same think about [name_u]Jo[/name_u] nickname, I don’t mind most nicknames that evolve from names (being Aussie it’s pretty normal).

Thanks for replying! I agree on the mishearing or nickname, we live in Australia and nicknames are pretty much part of our culture

I was really keen to hear people’s thoughts on the actual name itself and it’s mostly positive it seems.

I like your alternative B suggestions but none feel as right as [name_u]Jovi[/name_u]. [name_u]Will[/name_u] just have to keep working on my hubby.

[name_u]Jovi[/name_u] is super cute. I do know a [name_u]Jovi[/name_u] who is a girl but I definitely feel it could go either way. I like it much better than [name_u]Bailey[/name_u]. It fits right in with the cool vibes of siblings.

I like [name_u]Jovi[/name_u]! I didn’t thin of Bon [name_u]Jovi[/name_u] immediately, but I do agree you will probably get a lot of comments about it. I think jovi matches really well with your other kids names as well.

Thanks for everyone replies! I have tried my best to get hubby on board but he’s not feeling it.

He’s suggested [name_u]Finn[/name_u] a few days ago, which I’m actually ok with, despite being quite popular in Australia. Trying for [name_u]Jovi[/name_u] as the middle name!
