Thoughts on Kathy

I’ve always loved the old, european and classic names. [name_f]Katherine[/name_f] has always been one of my top names on my list, but I’m feeling a bit tired of nn [name_f]Kate[/name_f]/[name_f]Katie[/name_f]. I was wondering what thoughts are on the nn [name_f]Kathy[/name_f] coming back anytime soon. Your thoughts on other nn’s for [name_f]Katherine[/name_f] would be apreciated too. Thanks!

I am a [name_f]Kathryn[/name_f]. Various people throughout my life have tried to call me [name_f]Kathy[/name_f] and I have always been totally disgusted by it. I have been a [name_f]Kate[/name_f] since I was born, and I still really hate [name_f]Kathy[/name_f]. That’s my personal experience with it… lol

[name_f]Katherine[/name_f] nn [name_f]Kathy[/name_f] is nice and pretty unexpected these days. I normally don’t like nicknames as names but I have a friend named [name_f]Kathy[/name_f], just [name_f]Kathy[/name_f], and another who’s [name_f]Cathy[/name_f] so I like it. You’d have to be prepared though that your [name_f]Katherine[/name_f] may choose to go by a different nickname or her full name.

Most of the Katherines I know either go by their full name or [name_f]Kat[/name_f] (generally just with friends, and use [name_f]Katherine[/name_f] at work/school). There’s also [name_u]Kit[/name_u]/[name_f]Kitty[/name_f], K, and [name_f]Rina[/name_f].

Sadly I think [name_f]Kathy[/name_f] is dated, and not old enough to be cool again although [name_f]Katherine[/name_f] is beautiful. [name_f]Katia[/name_f] and [name_u]Kay[/name_u]/kaye are good nns.

[name_m]Even[/name_m] [name_f]Rina[/name_f] (short for [name_f]Katherina[/name_f]) is modern and cool.

Sorry feels mumsie to me. [name_f]Katia[/name_f], [name_u]Kay[/name_u] and [name_f]Rina[/name_f]/ [name_f]Rin[/name_f] are great suggestions. Goodluck

I like [name_f]Kathy[/name_f], but then I never care about dated issue. [name_f]Katherine[/name_f] nn [name_f]Kathy[/name_f] is pretty and unexpected, imo.

I like [name_u]Kay[/name_u] - it gets the dated thing too. I’m not as fond of [name_f]Kathy[/name_f] as I am of [name_u]Kay[/name_u]/[name_f]Kitty[/name_f]/[name_u]Kit[/name_u] or variants like [name_f]Katia[/name_f]/[name_f]Reina[/name_f]/[name_f]Trina[/name_f]/[name_f]Katinka[/name_f] etc.

I do have a soft spot for [name_f]Kathleen[/name_f], which is always slammed as dated, but would probably use sweet 1920s [name_u]Kay[/name_u] for short.

I would name her [name_f]Katerina[/name_f] and give her the nickname [name_f]Rina[/name_f]. I also like [name_f]Kat[/name_f].

I’ve liked [name_f]Kathy[/name_f] since I first read Wuthering Heights.

[name_f]Katherine[/name_f] is beautiful. But, I agree that [name_f]Kathy[/name_f] is a bit dated, but it doesn’t make it unusable. Other suggestions would be [name_f]Kat[/name_f] or [name_f]Kitty[/name_f].

I have a [name_m]French[/name_m] ancestor named [name_f]Catherine[/name_f] who went by Catiche–I love it! [name_f]Kathy[/name_f] seems incredibly dated…no reason why Katiche couldn’t work.

[name_f]Kathy[/name_f] reminds me of the nickname [name_f]Becky[/name_f] for rebecca, and it’s just…bleh. Old. Idk not my style.

[name_f]Kathy[/name_f] is my least favorite name. I like Stefaughneeia more than I like [name_f]Kathy[/name_f].

Another [name_f]Kathryn[/name_f] here who never wanted to be called [name_f]Kathy[/name_f]. I don’t know what it is about it, but I don’t like it.

I went to high school with a [name_f]Catherine[/name_f] who went by [name_f]Cathy[/name_f]. I didn’t mind it on her, and I oddly think it looks nicer spelled with a C, but like I said I would never use it myself. Our [name_m]French[/name_m] teacher had us mixed up for an entire semester and it bugged the heck out of me!

Yet another [name_f]Kathryn[/name_f] (all spelled the same, too! Weird!) here! I think we usually get people calling us [name_f]Kathy[/name_f] more often because of the ‘y’ in [name_f]Kathryn[/name_f]. I DETEST when people call me [name_f]Cathy[/name_f]/[name_f]Kathy[/name_f]. It’s very dated and there are so many more palatable nicknames for the name. [name_f]Kat[/name_f], [name_f]Kitty[/name_f], [name_f]Katie[/name_f], Ryn, [name_f]Kate[/name_f], [name_u]Kit[/name_u]. Maybe even [name_f]Thea[/name_f]!

My mom’s name is [name_f]Katherine[/name_f] nn [name_f]Kathy[/name_f] or Kath. I feel like it’s dated. I prefer [name_f]Katie[/name_f]. My mom wishes she had been called [name_f]Kate[/name_f].

My aunty is a [name_f]Kathryn[/name_f] and she wishes that she was called by her full name, instead of Kath and [name_f]Kathy[/name_f].

I think [name_f]Kathy[/name_f] is dated. [name_f]Every[/name_f] [name_f]Kathy[/name_f] I know is 40 or older. I don’t think enough time has passed for it to be a cute old lady name.
