Last night husband and I were discussing names and [name]Kelsey[/name] came up. He really likes it and i like it as well…but i’m trying to decide how much I like it compared to our other names.
[name]Do[/name] you think [name]Kelsey[/name] is to “90’s”? It’s not very popular now (around the 200’s in popularity) but in the early 90’s it was in top 30 for awhile.
What is your honest opinion of [name]Kelsey[/name]?
I find [name]Kelsey[/name] very dated. LA [name]Law[/name] or Thirtysomething - I can’t remember which -put that name on the map. It is very late 80s/early 90s.
When I hear this name, I am first reminded of the the TV shows Cheers and later [name]Frasier[/name] and its lead actor [name]Kelsey[/name] Grammar. Then there is a female ballerina [name]Gelsey[/name] Kirkland although she pronounces her name differently. For girls, I’ve seen [name]Kelsey[/name] spelled [name]Kelsea[/name], [name]Kelsie[/name] and even [name]Kelcie[/name]. The name is ok but it doesn’t excite me to any degree. I’ve certainly heard worse names. I always try to avoid names that shoot up the charts due to popular culture like books and TV shows and then disappear just as quickly. These names are considered “dated” and now sound “tired”. But the important thing is that you and your husband both like it. Good luck, [name]Mischa[/name].
It is dated to the 90s but I still like it anyway. If it were my favorite name, I would not hesitate to use it - especially because it is no longer that common. I don’t like many unisex/surname names on girls, but I do like this one (only this spelling, not [name]Kelcie[/name], etc). I do think of the LA [name]Law[/name] show, where a character with the surname [name]Kelsey[/name] named her baby that. I think of [name]Kelsey[/name] Grammer too, but I like it much better for girls.
Probably when it was popular it was seen as a fresher name than [name]Kelly[/name], and fit in the same style as names like [name]Ashley[/name] and [name]Courtney[/name].
I’ve never met a [name]Kelsey[/name] in my life. I must have been comatose in the 90’s…Sounds very Irish to me, and good. For a girl, I would consider Kelsah for the formal name, call her [name]Kelsey[/name]. For a boy, maybe Keller or Kellerman.
[name]Kelsey[/name] is a family name of mine. It’s my great great grandmothers surname. So I never think of it as being a dated first name. I always wanted to incorporate it into a daughter’s name somehow. I’ve met a couple of Kelseys. I like it.
My cousin’s 6 year old little girl is called [name]Kelsey[/name] and she wears it well. I definitely like the name even though it’s not my personal style. I agree that it’s one of the softer and more feminine sounding of the unisex surname name’s.
I would personally pair it with quite a classic and feminine name, or a modern sounding feminine name to keep it up to date, maybe; [name]Kelsey[/name] [name]Catherine[/name], [name]Kelsey[/name] [name]Margaret[/name], [name]Kelsey[/name] [name]Josephine[/name], [name]Kelsey[/name] [name]Elizabeth[/name], [name]Kelsey[/name] [name]Annabel[/name], [name]Kelsey[/name] [name]Madeleine[/name], [name]Kelsey[/name] [name]Imogen[/name], [name]Kelsey[/name] [name]Beatrice[/name], [name]Kelsey[/name] [name]Francesca[/name], [name]Kelsey[/name] [name]Giselle[/name] (sounds like a ballerina!), [name]Kelsey[/name] [name]Hannah[/name], [name]Kelsey[/name] [name]Iris[/name], [name]Kelsey[/name] [name]Eve[/name], [name]Kelsey[/name] [name]Jessamine[/name], [name]Kelsey[/name] [name]Rosanna[/name] (or any [name]Rose[/name] name), [name]Kelsey[/name] [name]Sophia[/name], [name]Kelsey[/name] [name]Matilda[/name] or [name]Kelsey[/name] [name]Grace[/name].
I really like the name [name]Kelsey[/name]. I know a few girls named [name]Kelsey[/name] and they are all wonderful and lovely. It might not be the most trendy or of the moment name, but I think it is always a beautiful name and a good name for a girl or a woman. I definitely do not think of [name]Kelsey[/name] Grammer at all.
I like it, im a british berry and when I was little we used to go to ‘[name]Kelsey[/name]’ park nr [name]London[/name] and it was beautifull. I don’t think it sounds dated it is nice and unique
I don’t find [name]Kelsey[/name] that dated. [name]Kelsey[/name] is a very pretty name. I’m even considering calling my second daughter that ( 7 more months!). If you like [name]Kelsey[/name] I say go for it! [name]One[/name] of my friends daughters is named [name]Kelseigh[/name] exept spelled like that. She is 10 and loves her name. Its up to you!
I had the name [name]Kelsey[/name] on my list up until recently when i trimmed down and it didnt make the cut. I still think its cute, but i cut it because my last name starts wih S and i didnt like the sound togther.
Try not to look at it as simply a name on paper. Use it in a few phrases youre sure to hear in the future…
“Mooommmmm… [name]Kelsey[/name] keeps poking me!” or “Mom, can [name]Kelsey[/name] come over and play?”
Names to me only sound dated when read, and not when associated to a person. If my daughter came home with her new BFF named [name]Kelsey[/name], the word “dated” wouldnt even come close to entering my mind.
Name your baby the name you love best and you’ll never regret it.
