What do you picture with this name?
Lavinia is my absolute favorite girl’s name!! It reminds me of lace, poems, tea, beautiful houses (it’s the name of [name_f]Emily[/name_f] [name_m]Dickinson[/name_m]’s sister so I strongly associate it with her).
It’s been a middle name on my list for years and I still absolutely love it.
It makes me think of Georgian manor houses, white gypsophila, dainty golden jewelry, embroidered pearl dresses, and champagne glasses. Overall a very light image, reminiscent of [name_f]Lavinia[/name_f] in Downton [name_u]Abbey[/name_u] or [name_f]Georgiana[/name_f] [name_u]Darcy[/name_u] in Pride and Prejudice. However, I can also see it as a darker name, dark green foliage and deep red flowers; probably due to the (not super positive) character from A [name_m]Little[/name_m] [name_f]Princess[/name_f].
Lavinia is such a beautiful name, both in writing and in sound. I love it so much, but I cannot get my thoughts away from the dreadful fate of [name_f]Lavinia[/name_f] in [name_m]Shakespeare[/name_m]’s “[name_m]Titus[/name_m] Andronicus.” Honestly, if it weren’t for that connection (and my having marked hundreds of essays on the topic ) I think we would have considered it for our own daughters.
Everyone’s comments above are literal perfection, so I’ll just chime in to agree. As a self-proclaimed “boring namer,” I quite like the exciting Lavinia! And I’m pretty picky.
It actually feels serious to me, despite the frills. Heavy and pendulous, but lacy and sweet! However, none of the nns I can think of are that appealing, but the name in full is assuredly a Victorian beauty.
Lavinia is elegant and regal
I love the name [name_f]Lavinia[/name_f]! It reminds me of Downtown [name_u]Abbey[/name_u] and that brings to mind elegance.
Gasp
It’s a name close to perfection, I think!
I think i’m in the minority when I say it’s nms and gives me a mean girl/ugly step sister vibe. I can’t even really explain why, but thats how i’ve always pictured it
While [name_f]Lavinia[/name_f] possesses vintage class, I also find it very young and fresh! I especially love it as a middle name.
I picture [name_f]Lavinia[/name_f] from [name_m]Roman[/name_m] mythology, the daughter of Latinus and [name_f]Amata[/name_f].
Part of the reason why it’s only a middle name for me, however, I think in theory you could be very creative with [name_f]Lavinia[/name_f] nicknames without it being too much of a stretch. [name_m]Just[/name_m] from reading left to right (with skipping letters): [name_u]Love[/name_u], [name_f]Lovie[/name_f], [name_u]Vinnie[/name_u], [name_f]Vina[/name_f], [name_f]Via[/name_f], [name_f]Ania[/name_f], [name_f]Nia[/name_f], Inny, [name_f]Ava[/name_f] / [name_f]Avia[/name_f] / [name_u]Avi[/name_u] (ay- or ah- pronunciation), [name_f]Lava[/name_f] (for the bold)
