i heard the name lemon on a little girl recently and fell in love! it’s summery and sweet and just feels so cute. it sounds like lennon which i love (but dislike the connection to john lennon). what are your thoughts on the name lemon? is it too cutesy or babyish for a name? if you could see it on a person, what sibling names would you pair with lemon? tyia!
I was thinking about [name_u]Lemon[/name_u] the other day - I do think it’s cute, but it’s one of those where I’m not sure I’d like it to be my full name?
[name_f]Philomena[/name_f] ‘Lemon’, [name_f]Clemency[/name_f] ‘Lemon’, [name_f]Wilhelmina[/name_f] ‘Lemon’, [name_f]Lillemor[/name_f] ‘Lemon’, [name_f]Lenora[/name_f] ‘Lemon’ would be how I’d probably get there
Still, I think it’s fun and with names like [name_f]Clementine[/name_f], [name_u]Lennon[/name_u], and [name_u]Ember[/name_u], it’s not completely out there, so some sibs just because…
[name_u]Lemon[/name_u] and [name_u]Ziggy[/name_u]
[name_u]Lemon[/name_u] and [name_f]Star[/name_f]
[name_u]Lemon[/name_u] and [name_u]Rocket[/name_u]
[name_u]Lemon[/name_u] and [name_u]Pepper[/name_u]
[name_u]Lemon[/name_u] and [name_f]Pixie[/name_f]
[name_u]Lemon[/name_u] and [name_m]Cosmo[/name_m]
[name_u]Lemon[/name_u] and [name_u]Fifer[/name_u]
[name_u]Lemon[/name_u] and [name_f]Breezy[/name_f]
[name_u]Lemon[/name_u] and [name_m]Tide[/name_m]
[name_u]Lemon[/name_u] and [name_f]Naia[/name_f]
[name_u]Lemon[/name_u] and [name_m]Kipling[/name_m]
[name_u]Lemon[/name_u] and [name_u]Poet[/name_u]
[name_u]Lemon[/name_u] and [name_m]Boone[/name_m]
[name_u]Lemon[/name_u] is adorable! I met a little [name_u]Lemon[/name_u] a few months ago and it was so cool seeing the name in the wild. I especially love [name_u]Lemon[/name_u] as a nickname for [name_f]Clementine[/name_f]!
I’d name a sibling…
[name_u]Lark[/name_u]
[name_u]Fable[/name_u]
[name_u]Rue[/name_u]
[name_m]Kitto[/name_m]
[name_f]Pippa[/name_f] (Lemon & [name_u]Pip[/name_u] — lemon pip? )
[name_f]Olive[/name_f]
[name_f]Willa[/name_f]
[name_u]Ozzy[/name_u] / [name_u]Izzy[/name_u]
[name_u]Nico[/name_u]
[name_u]Lyric[/name_u]
[name_f]Sonnet[/name_f]
[name_u]Story[/name_u]
[name_f]Margo[/name_f]
[name_u]Scout[/name_u]
Also seconding @Greyblue’s suggestion of [name_u]Fifer[/name_u]!
I find it a bit odd tbh. I know a [name_f]Clementine[/name_f] who is sometimes called [name_u]Lemon[/name_u]. That seems weirder than just [name_u]Lemon[/name_u] on its own, since [name_f]Clementine[/name_f] is a fruit, then her nickname is a different fruit.
[name_u]Lemon[/name_u] & [name_u]Jasper[/name_u]
[name_u]Lemon[/name_u] & [name_u]Kit[/name_u]
[name_u]Lemon[/name_u] & [name_u]Milo[/name_u]
[name_u]Lemon[/name_u] & [name_f]Tess[/name_f]
[name_u]Lemon[/name_u] & [name_f]Freya[/name_f]
I do see the appeal… it’s summery and bright and similar to the more-common [name_u]Lennon[/name_u]. But I also think it sounds a little silly and I can’t picture it on an adult at all. I personally wouldn’t want it as my given name.
I also think of the term ‘lemon’ for when something is defective. A lot of places still have laws called [name_u]Lemon[/name_u] Laws for when you’re sold a car that doesn’t work right, so that’s not a great association. Plus the whole ‘sour lemon’ thing.
Summary
This fruit quote made me giggle
I do honestly find Lemon a little babyish! I really like the full names @Greyblue suggested to get nn Lemon
[name_u]Lemon[/name_u] is suuuper cute!
[name_f]My[/name_f] nan has called me [name_u]Lemon[/name_u] when I’m being silly ever since I was a baby so it makes me feel warm and happy
I think it’s best as a nickname because it may be hard to wear as an adult. It’s one of those names that you can nickname any name with! You know what I mean?
I think I would use it as a nickname or perhaps as a modern middle or maybe as a super bold first but then I would give a more substantial name such as [name_f]Margot[/name_f], [name_u]Louise[/name_u] or [name_f]Anna[/name_f] so the child will have a choice.
I think [name_u]Lemon[/name_u] is unusable as a name for a real child.
I like @Greyblue’s idea of [name_f]Philomena[/name_f] with [name_u]Lemon[/name_u] as a nickname. That could work great in my opinion!
I think it’s really cute, but maybe a bit too cutesy!
For siblings:
[name_f]Willa[/name_f]
[name_m]Cosmo[/name_m]
[name_f]Elvira[/name_f]
[name_u]Wilkie[/name_u]
[name_f]Luella[/name_f]
[name_f]Vivienne[/name_f]
[name_u]Dove[/name_u]
[name_u]Cleo[/name_u]
Don’t think this is usable as a full first name for a human, although it could make a cute nickname.
lemon as a nickname is adorable and so cute, but i can’t see it being used as a first name. @Greyblue ’s idea of using lemon as a nickname for philomena and wilhelmina are darling!
It’s cute and I admit I love the sunshine & summer vibes, but I can’t help but think of a) the term being used to describe a car or item that doesn’t function as it should, and b) it used to be a term ages ago for a fanfiction/work of writing that contained graphic suggestive themes (as opposed to a lime, which was suggestive but not graphic). It’s a bit of a silly connection, but it’s one I’d be iffy on connecting a name I like to.
I really like [name_u]Lemon[/name_u]. It is a complete GP of mine. I don’t think I could ever use it but do think it is usable. Also much like [name_u]Lennon[/name_u] “Leni” I think [name_u]Lemon[/name_u] could me “Lemi”.
For siblings…
[name_u]Lemon[/name_u] and [name_f]Lavender[/name_f]
[name_u]Lemon[/name_u] and [name_f]Magnolia[/name_f]
[name_u]Lemon[/name_u] and [name_u]Jude[/name_u]
[name_u]Lemon[/name_u] and [name_u]Forest[/name_u]
I love Lemon!!! I think it’s really cute, and I can definitely see it on a person🍋 (especially because I have heard it used as a name before) Cherry, Clementine, Peaches, Berry, and Apple have all been used as names, so I feel like Lemon is useable!!

I definitely see the appeal of [name_u]Lemon[/name_u], it’s bright and fun and summery, but I do think it’s better as a nickname. I think the name [name_u]Lemon[/name_u] would be difficult to wear and would be pretty annoying in teen and adult years, they wouldn’t be taken seriously and would probably face lots of teasing. @Greyblue had really great suggestions for names it could be used as a nickname for, and I think you could get away with using it as a middle name too. [name_f]Hope[/name_f] this helps!
maybe i could offer my perspective as someone who (almost) knows a lemon! her name is actually lemonya (greek for “lemon tree”) and she’s in her late 30s. she’s a teacher and a bit more serious, and, from what i know, she doesn’t like her name and she goes exclusively by lita (from lemonya → lemonita → lita)
that is to say, for some people i think it’s just too cutesy. but nicknames can save it! maybe lita wouldn’t be intuitive to an english speaker, but something like leni would be sweet. i think i prefer it as a nickname or middle name, but it’s not unusable!
it reminds me of lemon from strawberry shortcake. cute, but i wouldn’t use it personally.
I feel like it should be totally wearable because there are so many other fruit names out there, and word names are only gaining in wearability, but I’m not sure I can quite get on board. Think it’s a sweet nickname but as a legal name, maybe not. I most often say it in the context of ‘standing there like a lemon’
To be honest though, the more I think about it the more I feel we are one step away from there being some devastatingly cool celebrity-baby-turned-teenage-supermodel named [name_u]Lemon[/name_u] making it seem aspirational and stylish, so, maybe you’re just ahead of the curve
It isn’t a name I would choose. I think it would attract a lot of teasing and bullying.
