Thoughts on Lielle? Too obscure?

I really like Lielle which is an anglicized version of the unisex name Liel which is Hebrew. It was my first choice for my daughter but we went with [name_f]Leorah[/name_f] instead. We need to submit her birth certificate documents and finalize her name. She is 10 days old.I still have love for Lielle and wanted to know how others perceived it. It is pronounced [name_u]Lee[/name_u]-elle. [name_f]Do[/name_f] you think the pronunciation is problematic? People seem to have trouble with [name_f]Leorah[/name_f] too though. My mom cant stop calling her [name_f]Leonora[/name_f], which annoys me a lot. Using Lielle would require her middle name to be [name_f]Anne[/name_f] or [name_f]Annabeth[/name_f] instead of [name_f]Annabelle[/name_f]. I’m sure will probably just leave it as [name_f]Leorah[/name_f] [name_f]Annabelle[/name_f] but I would really like feedback on Lielle first.

I find Lielle much more pretty and feminine than [name_f]Leorah[/name_f]! I’d never heard it before but I would pronounce it just right, and if I heard it I’d probably know how to write it. Lielle [name_f]Annabeth[/name_f] is a stunning name.

I would go for Lielle hands down!

I really Lielle [name_f]Annabeth[/name_f] more. Lielle seems pretty straightforward as far as pronunciation. I’m not sure how you pronounce [name_f]Leorah[/name_f]. Is it [name_u]Lee[/name_u]-oh-ruh? Might just be me but that seems hard to pronounce. Lielle is different but it doesn’t seem weird or too out there.

[name_f]Leorah[/name_f] is pronounced [name_u]Lee[/name_u]-or-ah its more widely spelled [name_f]Liora[/name_f] now in [name_m]Israel[/name_m], [name_f]Leora[/name_f]/[name_f]Leorah[/name_f] is the older way and was used here in [name_u]America[/name_u] so I didn’t think it was unknown but people seem perplexed when I say it. I am not even entirely decided on the spelling and may just simplify it to [name_f]Leora[/name_f] or [name_f]Liora[/name_f] if Dad doesnt want to go with Lielle now. Either way I think I like [name_f]Annabeth[/name_f] more than [name_f]Annabelle[/name_f].

Considering Lielle [name_f]Annemarie[/name_f] as well. [name_f]Anne[/name_f] and [name_f]Marie[/name_f] are middles from hubbys mom and grandma

I don’t know, I am quite partial to [name_f]Leorah[/name_f], although, with [name_f]Eliora[/name_f] taking up a big part in my heart, I do admit to preferring [name_f]Liora[/name_f] to [name_f]Leorah[/name_f]. I think [name_f]Liora[/name_f]/[name_f]Leorah[/name_f] is stunning with your other little ones, and while I think I’d probably say Lielle right, I find [name_f]Liora[/name_f] much more intriguing personally. I wonder if your mom would find [name_f]Liora[/name_f] or [name_f]Leora[/name_f] easier to say? The “E” and “H” do throw me off a little bit, as I’m so used to seeing [name_f]Liora[/name_f], but not enough to make me say [name_f]Leonora[/name_f]. :stuck_out_tongue:

I find that Lielle sounds more abrupt with the [name_f]Anne[/name_f] middles, but if you’re not wanting [name_f]Annabelle[/name_f] anymore (personally, I think [name_f]Liora[/name_f] [name_f]Annabel[/name_f] or [name_f]Liora[/name_f] [name_f]Annabelle[/name_f] to be absolutely stunning!), I think [name_f]Liora[/name_f] [name_f]Anne[/name_f] or [name_f]Liora[/name_f] [name_f]Annabeth[/name_f] are both really nice, too. Or even [name_f]Liora[/name_f] [name_f]Anneliese[/name_f] or [name_f]Liora[/name_f] [name_f]Annette[/name_f].

Good luck!

I think both Lielle and [name_f]Leora[/name_f] are beautiful.

For Lielle, I like the pronunciation, but with the spelling all I see is “Lie”. Liel doesn’t make it jump out as much to me, somehow.

I think [name_f]Leorah[/name_f] [name_f]Annabelle[/name_f] is very pretty, and works well with your other children’s names. Lielle seems to clash with [name_f]Eliana[/name_f] (both having the “[name_u]Lee[/name_u]” sound in them).

I quite like [name_f]Leorah[/name_f], especially with your other children’s names, but I’d spell it [name_f]Leora[/name_f] or [name_f]Liora[/name_f] — perhaps the [name_f]Liora[/name_f] spelling would help with the [name_f]Leonora[/name_f] confusion?

I prefer [name_f]Leorah[/name_f] but spelled [name_f]Liora[/name_f]. I’m considering it as a Hebrew name for my daughter.

I personally prefer [name_f]Leorah[/name_f], though I think the [name_f]Liora[/name_f] spelling is just stunning, Lielle too soft for me as there is no hard consonant nor a strong vowel; there’s nothing that draws me in. [name_f]Leorah[/name_f]/[name_f]Liora[/name_f], however, makes me listen, it’s a name that feels strong and ancient, powerful.

I love the sound of Lielle [name_f]Annemarie[/name_f] and I think it flows better than [name_f]Leorah[/name_f] [name_f]Annabelle[/name_f] or Lielle [name_f]Annabeth[/name_f]
I also agree that you should try out [name_f]Liora[/name_f] instead of [name_f]Leorah[/name_f]

I much prefer the original Hebrew spellings Liel and [name_f]Liora[/name_f], which are both beautiful names. I do think [name_f]Liora[/name_f]/[name_f]Leorah[/name_f] is a bit easier to digest for Americans- I would pick [name_f]Liora[/name_f] [name_f]Annabelle[/name_f].

I agree that [name_f]Leorah[/name_f] might play better than Lielle in the US. Lielle feels a bit like some of the contracted names I’ve heard recently (like [name_f]Brielle[/name_f] or Raelle) that sound somewhat constructed, and not as strong as [name_f]Leorah[/name_f].

If it’s at all helpful, I chose [name_f]Liora[/name_f] for my daughter and haven’t regretted it. We get nothing but compliments on it and people often guess it is spelled [name_f]Leora[/name_f]. They do ask if we made it up, since most aren’t familiar with it as a Hebrew name. it has also produced [name_f]Lilou[/name_f] as a fun nickname.

Firstly, I have to say that I love [name_f]Leora[/name_f], but I’m not a fan of the spelling [name_f]Leorah[/name_f]. I hope that doesn’t offend you.

I love, love, [name_u]LOVE[/name_u] Lielle! No, I don’t think the pronunciation is problematic! I was saying it as [name_u]Lee[/name_u]-elle in my head before I even saw your pronunciation. It’s stupid that people are calling a girl called [name_f]Leorah[/name_f] [name_f]Leonora[/name_f] but… ::sigh:: some people do things like that. But in my opinion, it doesn’t really matter how obscure a name is. It’s a beautiful name. I actually think the more obscure, the better. There are so many common names, why not be different? Lielle is a beautiful name. It’s not like you want to name her something ridiculous like [name_u]Blue[/name_u] [name_f]Ivy[/name_f].

Also, may I suggest the combination Lielle [name_f]Annora[/name_f]? It has the [name_f]Ann[/name_f] part that you were looking at for your middle name and I think it would really flow with Lielle really well!

Best of luck with your lovely daughter!

I think either choice is beautiful. But you seem to love Lielle. You dont wantto have naming regrets. You have to think about how you may feel down the road. If you are already thinking of changing it, you probably should - you might regret it later if you don’t.

With [name_f]Eliana[/name_f] and [name_f]Leorah[/name_f], I think Lielle is too similar, although it is pretty. Maybe choose something different like you did for [name_f]Abigail[/name_f] and the boys.

Wow, that was really great feedback and gave us some perspective. I’m still mulling it over as I think both [name_f]Leorah[/name_f]/[name_f]Leora[/name_f] and Lielle are beautiful names. The one issue I have with [name_f]Leorah[/name_f] is that I don’t really feel any of the spellings appeal to me and I rather like the H that everyone seems to not like because the name looks so incomplete to me. I do love the name Lielle [name_f]Annemarie[/name_f] and the suggestion of Lielle [name_f]Annora[/name_f] is very pretty.

[name_u]Love[/name_u] these names! Following because I love all combos suggested. Can you go wrong? No!

That said I have to admit to gasping a bit about Lielle [name_f]Annora[/name_f]. So gorgeous.

Overall, Lielle not too obscure. It’s distinctive, but also has sounds that a lot of modern parents appreciate (vowels and l’s) so I think you’ll get a “ooh this is so distinctive and pretty” reaction rather than a “eeeek” reaction.

I also love [name_f]Leorah[/name_f] [name_f]Annabelle[/name_f] as is, but can see how the spelling makes people jump to the name they are most familiar with that’s spelled sort of the same. Meh. I guess decide if this matters to you. Close family members will get the hang of it quickly enough, but may be a good test for the reactions you may get in general. Again, I think meh. Go with what you love.

I love all of your options.
Some quick thoughts:

  • Lielle seems very obvious to me in terms of pronunciation.
  • [name_f]Leorah[/name_f] is lovely, but I vastly prefer [name_f]Liora[/name_f] or [name_f]Leora[/name_f] as spellings. The ‘h’ will create years of unnecessary confusion when spelling the name.
  • [name_f]Annabeth[/name_f] is my favourite nickname option for both names
