I really love [name_f]Liv[/name_f] and am leaning towards just naming my baby girl [name_f]Liv[/name_f]. However I do also like [name_f]Livia[/name_f] and I’m wondering if that would be a better name and use [name_f]Liv[/name_f] as the nickname. What do you all like better? Thanks!
[name_f]Livia[/name_f] is pretty. People could definitely mistake it for [name_f]Olivia[/name_f], so I’d be prepared for that. It’s not as striking as [name_f]Liv[/name_f] is…
I prefer [name_f]Liv[/name_f] since it’s an entirely separate name in its own right, and [name_f]Livia[/name_f] could be confused with [name_f]Olivia[/name_f]. The origin of [name_f]Liv[/name_f] is Old Norse hlíf = “cover, protection (especially that provided by a shield)”. In Norse mythology, Líf and Lífþrasir are the two people who will survive the final battle of [name_m]Ragnar[/name_m]ök and become the ancestors of a new family of man.
I’m ambivalent toward [name_f]Livia[/name_f] (and [name_f]Lavinia[/name_f], for that matter - both pretty but somewhat harsh). [name_f]Livia[/name_f] reminds me of the wife of Emperor [name_m]Augustus[/name_m], [name_f]Livia[/name_f] [name_f]Drusilla[/name_f], and the character [name_f]Anna[/name_f] [name_f]Livia[/name_f] Plurabelle in Finnegans Wake.
I like [name_f]Liv[/name_f] on its own better. I think [name_f]Livia[/name_f] is too similar to [name_f]Olivia[/name_f] and being [name_f]Olivia[/name_f] so popular, it would get mistaken all the time.
I agree with all of you and will go with [name_f]Liv[/name_f] which is what I want to do anyway. Thank you!!
Yep definitely do [name_f]Liv[/name_f] if that’s what you love - it’s very nice on its own.
