The name Lloyd keeps popping up in our potential boy name discussions, I do like that it’s a bit clunky and old fashioned but because it’s only one syllable it doesn’t feel like it’s too much. But is it too out of fashion for now?
Also any suggestions for middles? To my ear a 3 syllable sounds best, Lloyd Anthony, Lloyd Barnaby etc
Other names circling about are Lewis and Laurence so I guess we are a bit partial to boys names starting with L, haha.

I think that [name_m]Lloyd[/name_m] is darling. It’s sweet & smart & unexpected. And it reminds me of [name_m]John[/name_m] Cusack [name_m]Say[/name_m] Anything! Unpopular opinion - don’t do it. [name_f]My[/name_f] boyfriend is named [name_m]Lloyd[/name_m] and he has always disliked it.
It’s the weirdest thing, but despite being a well-known name, nobody can spell it! The double L’s seem to trip them up and they always end up spelling it Llyod.
People our age (early 30s) associate it with the character from Dumb and Dumber, which hasn’t been a positive experience either. And some people call him [name_m]Floyd[/name_m] to tease him (it just makes them look like idiots but it’s annoying all the same).
Based on my Lloyd’s experiences, I wouldn’t recommend it.

Thanks for this feedback. I hadn’t considered the spelling would be challenging but I can see how that would be the case. I had also forgotton the character from Dumb and Dumber. It’s not the worst but interesting that so many boys names have been vetoed because of bad associations, where we haven’t had this issue for girls at all.
