Thoughts on Louise

Hello all! We are shortly expecting our second baby girl (sister to [name_f]Iris[/name_f]).
We are close to picking [name_f]Louise[/name_f] as a definite, but I just thought I’d throw out the net a bit for general impressions or possible alternatives.

I love how classic [name_f]Louise[/name_f] is, yet appreciate how underused it is right now (for a first name, at least). I also love the nickname possibilities, and think it’s a nice fit with [name_f]Iris[/name_f]. that said, a part of me wonders if it’s perhaps a little too familiar/mundane? For reference, our last name sounds like Eavestrough.
For middles we are considering [name_f]Patricia[/name_f] as well as [name_f]Catherine[/name_f], which are very important honour names for us.

So, general thoughts on [name_f]Louise[/name_f]? Too familiar?
Other ideas in a similar vein that would fit our last name and match with [name_f]Iris[/name_f]?

Thanks so much for any thoughts!!

I think [name_f]Louise[/name_f] is a beautiful name, not mundane at all. It might have been a bit mundane a few decades ago. While it is a very familiar name, it’s also a very fresh name for a baby right now in my opinion. If you’re not sure about [name_f]Louise[/name_f], maybe [name_f]Louisa[/name_f] would feel more in style at the moment.

Some other names that come to mind:
[name_u]Eloise[/name_u]
[name_f]Daphne[/name_f]
[name_f]Olive[/name_f]
[name_f]Edith[/name_f]
[name_f]Ruth[/name_f]
[name_f]Alice[/name_f]
[name_f]Phoebe[/name_f]
[name_f]Celia[/name_f]
[name_f]Livia[/name_f]
[name_f]Helen[/name_f]
[name_f]Flora[/name_f]
[name_f]Lila[/name_f]
[name_f]Lydia[/name_f]
[name_f]Eliza[/name_f]

I do really like [name_f]Louise[/name_f], it doesn’t feel mundane to me, at all. But, I do prefer [name_f]Louisa[/name_f] and think it matches sister [name_f]Iris[/name_f] a tiny bit better.

I think [name_f]Louise[/name_f] is pretty. [name_f]Louisa[/name_f], in the other hand, is beautiful. [name_f]Iris[/name_f] and [name_f]Louisa[/name_f] would be perfection.

I love the name [name_f]Louise[/name_f], and it fits perfectly with big sister [name_f]Iris[/name_f]!

From your MN ideas, I love [name_f]Louise[/name_f] [name_f]Catherine[/name_f].

[name_f]Louise[/name_f] is ok, and I like that it’s a classic that is not widely used at the moment. It feels a little bland to me next to an interesting name like [name_f]Iris[/name_f]. Like pps however I adore [name_f]Louisa[/name_f] and think it goes better with [name_f]Iris[/name_f].

I like [name_f]Louise[/name_f]! but like some others [name_f]Louisa[/name_f] is one of my favourite names and I adore it! I think the “a” gives it a modern and fresh feeling. I also have strong European heritage so I prefer names ending in “a” or “e” with the same “eh/ah” sound.

I love [name_f]Louise[/name_f]! It’s very classy in a cute way
If you think it’s too common (I understand why you’d think that!) you should consider [name_f]Louisa[/name_f] or [name_f]Lovise[/name_f] (norwegian variation of [name_f]Louise[/name_f] with the cute nn Lovi)

I agree with many of the previous posters. While I think [name_f]Louise[/name_f] is a perfectly fine name and not mundane, I really like [name_f]Louisa[/name_f] much more, especially with [name_f]Iris[/name_f]. As someone said, [name_f]Iris[/name_f] has a bit more interest than [name_f]Louise[/name_f], but changing it to [name_f]Louisa[/name_f] adds some extra interest to help bump it up to [name_f]Iris[/name_f]'s level. =]

[name_f]Louise[/name_f] is cute. I tend to prefer [name_u]Eloise[/name_u] but I think it is more popular. [name_f]Lucille[/name_f], [name_f]Cecile[/name_f], [name_f]Harriet[/name_f], [name_f]Maxine[/name_f], [name_f]Margaret[/name_f], and [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] have a similar vibe to me.

[name_f]Louise[/name_f] is sweet, as is [name_f]Louisa[/name_f], and I think they both go well with [name_f]Iris[/name_f]. I actually prefer [name_u]Eloise[/name_u] as I think it’s a bit different & more elegant (also [name_f]Iris[/name_f] and [name_u]Eloise[/name_u] would be a lovely sibset) but [name_f]Louise[/name_f] is cute too!
