I really love the girls name [name_f]Lux[/name_f] but my surname is only three letters. What are your thoughts on Luxea? I think it has potential, just curious a) how you would pronounce it if you just saw it written, and b) what other names you can suggest with [name_f]Lux[/name_f] as a nickname. Thanks!
I think [name_f]Lux[/name_f] could be a nickname for any of the “[name_u]Alex[/name_u]” names: [name_f]Alexandra[/name_f], [name_u]Alexis[/name_u], [name_f]Alexia[/name_f], [name_f]Alexandria[/name_f]. I even ran across an alternate spelling [name_f]Alexus[/name_f]. I can also see maybe [name_f]Louise[/name_f], [name_f]Luisa[/name_f].
I love [name_f]Lux[/name_f]! It’s a cool name! Or it could be a nickname for a more traditional name like [name_f]Louisa[/name_f] or [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f]!
I am not fond of Luxea. I would pronounce it lux - EE - uh.
Other suggestions to get to the nickname [name_f]Lux[/name_f]:
[name_f]Luella[/name_f]
Ludmilla
[name_f]Lavinia[/name_f]
[name_f]Lucia[/name_f]
You could even branch out and use any of the other names meaning light if you prefer one of them: [name_f]Aurora[/name_f], [name_f]Eliora[/name_f], [name_f]Helena[/name_f], [name_f]Seraphina[/name_f], etc…although it would be a less intuitive nickname, if you called her [name_f]Lux[/name_f] I think people would follow suit.
Really not my style, sorry. It sounds more like a brand name than a person’s name to me…probably because I think “luxury” and deluxe". Luxea is even more so. I infinitely prefer [name_f]Lucy[/name_f], [name_f]Lucia[/name_f], etc. which come from the same root (lux = light in Latin).
I think it would look/ sound great with a feminine middle name or first name i.e:
[name_f]Lux[/name_f] [name_u]Ruby[/name_u]
[name_u]Ruby[/name_u] [name_f]Lux[/name_f]
[name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] [name_f]Lux[/name_f]
[name_f]Amber[/name_f] [name_f]Lux[/name_f]
[name_f]Lauren[/name_f] [name_f]Lux[/name_f]
[name_f]Amethyst[/name_f] [name_f]Lux[/name_f]
[name_f]Lux[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f]
[name_f]Chloe[/name_f] [name_f]Lux[/name_f]
[name_f]Zara[/name_f] [name_f]Lux[/name_f]
[name_f]Aurora[/name_f] [name_f]Lux[/name_f]
[name_f]Arabella[/name_f] [name_f]Lux[/name_f]
[name_f]Isadora[/name_f] [name_f]Lux[/name_f]
Ysabeau [name_f]Lux[/name_f]
[name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] [name_f]Lux[/name_f]
Earendil [name_f]Lux[/name_f]
Evenstar [name_f]Lux[/name_f]
[name_f]Violetta[/name_f] [name_f]Lux[/name_f]
[name_f]Louisa[/name_f] [name_f]Lux[/name_f]
[name_f]Lulu[/name_f] [name_f]Lux[/name_f]
[name_f]Kitty[/name_f] [name_f]Lux[/name_f]
Or you could try using it as a nickname as suggested by others i.e. :
[name_f]Lucienne[/name_f]
[name_f]Bellatrix[/name_f]
[name_f]Louisa[/name_f]
I like [name_f]Lux[/name_f], but I would not use it with a surname that is only three letters. [name_m]Don[/name_m]'t like Luxea, sorry. But I agree with the others, there are a number of names that could get you to the nickname [name_f]Lux[/name_f], my favorites of which are [name_f]Lucy[/name_f] and [name_f]Louisa[/name_f]
I don’t like [name_f]Lux[/name_f] at all for a first name, but I don’t mind it as a nickname or middle name. Luxea looks and sounds totally made up. It’s not great. Would [name_f]Alexia[/name_f] work?
I truly love [name_f]Lux[/name_f] in principal but I don’t know if I’d ever use it. [name_m]Just[/name_m] the fact it’s so obscure and ‘unnamely’, plus the brand connection and the ‘luxury’ imagery.
The Virgin Suicides is literally the most beautifully perfect film and book ever which made me fall in love with it (especially because [name_f]Lux[/name_f] is played by [name_f]Kirsten[/name_f] Dunst… she gets called Luxie by her parents aww), and I’ve seen pictures floating round tumblr of One Direction’s stylist’s baby girl who’s name is [name_f]Lux[/name_f], and she really is adorable. It’s meaning is so lovely.
Luxea is hideous, I have to say. I’ve heard a couple of people on Nameberry talking about it as a nn for [name_f]Lucy[/name_f]/[name_f]Lucia[/name_f] and family, but I don’t know how I feel about that. [name_f]Alexandra[/name_f]/[name_f]Alexandria[/name_f] could work?
Lux is gorgeous. Luxea is nice. But you need longer name with three letters last name. Maybe something 4-syllables with Lux as middle

I like [name_f]Lux[/name_f], but I found Luxea weird. Sorry. What about [name_f]Lucia[/name_f] nn [name_f]Lux[/name_f]? [name_f]Lux[/name_f] is latin variant for [name_f]Lucy[/name_f], so Luxea supposes to be same with [name_f]Lucia[/name_f], right?
I think [name_f]Lux[/name_f] makes for a very cool and surprisingly middle name, but I wouldn’t use it for a fist name. I feel Luxea is a clunky name. Perhaps you can search namebeeey for other names that mean the same as [name_f]Lux[/name_f].
[name_f]EDIT[/name_f]: I am loving the above person’s suggestion of using the name [name_f]Lucia[/name_f] to get to the nickname of [name_f]Lux[/name_f].
I think other posters have this right: Luxea is weird, and [name_f]Lux[/name_f] is not, especially with such a short ln, going to be appropriate for a fn. But there are several great options for names that have the same meaning and would lend themselves well to [name_f]Lux[/name_f] as a nn.
Thanks, berries. I think you’re right about Luxea.
I’m liking [name_f]Lux[/name_f] with a feminine middle name so perhaps I’ll venture further in to that idea! My name means dawn/gold so I love the connection.
I also like Lucija (hubby is Polish) so maybe Lucija with nn [name_f]Lux[/name_f].
Honestly as a given name I find [name_f]Lux[/name_f] tacky and puzzling. I just do not see the charm, or the beauty in it. I’d imagine that [name_f]Lux[/name_f], would have a brother Sniper, and a sister Glitter. If you love it, you love it, and your little girl is yours to name. But personally this is name I’d give a pet over a person.
I think this is the kind of “in theory” association that can change the moment you see a person in real life. Provided [name_f]Lux[/name_f]'s siblings aren’t called those things, and she doesn’t live in a trailer park, no-one’s going to maintain those associations when they see young [name_f]Lux[/name_f] and her normal, respectable parents.
I love this name too; my concern over its use as a first is that it rhymes with unpleasant things starting with F and S - not nice for a teenage girl. Does that concern you at all? I’d love to know other people’s views on this.
I like [name_f]Lux[/name_f].
Possible Names could be: [name_f]Calixta[/name_f], [name_f]Lucasta[/name_f], [name_f]Lucretia[/name_f], Luksa, Calixa, Latika, Linka, Lonnica, [name_f]Lois[/name_f], Loxley, Loxo, Lubica, Lucera, Lucresse, Lumikki, Luscinia, Lycaste,
[name_f]Lux[/name_f] is pronounced similar to looks. It’s not similar to fu/cks. (wall, maybe little, both are one-syllable and ends with ks sound)
Oooooohhhhhhhhhh. penny drops
In that case, I don’t like it quite so much, just because the sound “looks” isn’t quite as appealing, and there would be pronunciation confusion… Good to know!
Part of the appeal of [name_f]Lux[/name_f] is that it is short. I wouldn’t try to lengthen it. Here are a few “light” alternatives:
[name_f]Lucy[/name_f]
[name_f]Lenore[/name_f]
[name_f]Aurora[/name_f]
[name_f]Iris[/name_f]
