I’m due to have a daughter in 3 months and I’m in love with the name [name_f]Maja[/name_f] pronounced ‘[name_f]Maya[/name_f]’. I’m aware that it will be mispronounced but what are your thoughts?
I moved this thread to a more appropriate forum (the “All About Nameberry” forum is for technical issues/site suggestions/etc. and not name advice).
Honestly I think you should just spell it traditionally. I think it’s going to cause nothing but grief to have it constantly mispronounced.
@PP: [name_f]Maja[/name_f] is the traditional spelling in a number of languages. [name_m]Just[/name_m] say “use the English spelling” if that’s what you mean. Phrasing it that way kinda manages to disregard, like, all of Scandinavia and Eastern Europe.
@OP: I think [name_f]Maja[/name_f] is very nice.
Living in the US my thought is that most people would not know how to pronounce it and it would be simpler for your child to spell it [name_f]Maya[/name_f] if that’s the intended pronunciation… but if you live elsewhere perhaps it’s not an issue
