Thoughts on Manilla for a boy?

I recently stumbled across the name [name_f]Manilla[/name_f] and it’s becoming a guilty pleasure name for me…and even though it’s traditionally a girls’ name I love it on a boy. Thoughts on the name for a boy? Is it too feminine? I’d probably pair it with a shorter, simpler, more masculine middle name like [name_u]Quinn[/name_u] or [name_u]Jude[/name_u].

I love a softer boy name, but this one’s leaning girly for me. I think it’s the letters. [name_f]Manila[/name_f] being a place, and neither spelling being in the top 1000, I don’t think it is a female-exclusive name. It’s more a feel, I guess? And perhaps it’s the proximity to [name_f]Camilla[/name_f], [name_f]Millie[/name_f], etc. I do like [name_f]Manilla[/name_f] though, it evokes a tropical landscape and the smell of coconut to me. I don’t know, I think the right guy could pull it off if you just adore it. I could see it on the coolest guitarist or surfer dude. But I’m pretty sure most will say femme on this.

I’ve never heard of this name before (for any gender) and to be honest I find it a bit strange. All I can think of is the city [name_f]Manila[/name_f] in the Philippines and manila paper.

Sorry, but my first impressions were definitely manila envelope and vanilla.

I always appreciate an unusual a-ending boys’ name, but I have to admit that [name_f]Manilla[/name_f] isn’t grabbing me. Immediate associations: vanilla, manila envelopes, gorilla, [name_f]Camilla[/name_f]… I would definitely assume that someone called [name_f]Manilla[/name_f] was female, too.

For some reason this is making me think of beautiful Italian/Spanish boys’ names like [name_m]Marcello[/name_m] and [name_m]Camilo[/name_m] — how do you feel about those?

I love [name_f]Manilla[/name_f]!

Like a manila envelope?? This isn’t a good name for a baby regardless of gender

I’m not a fan of [name_f]Manilla[/name_f], sorry. I don’t like that it can be shortened to man and manny.

I love softer, more feminine names for boys, especially in the middle, but [name_f]Manilla[/name_f] is just so inextricably tied to the envelopes for me. What about [name_f]Aquila[/name_f], [name_u]Merrill[/name_u], or [name_u]Marlowe[/name_u]?

Not good for a boy- just too girly. I feel like he’ll get made fun off.
Also reminds me of [name_f]Manila[/name_f] folders…
