Thoughts on Margot as a full name

Hello again! I have always loved the names Margot, Meg and Maggie. All of them are nicknames for Margaret, but unfortunately I am less in love with it. I don’t strongly dislike it but I prefer all three nicknames. With Maggie and Meg specifically I would want a longer full name for them. But I do really love Margot and I know it has been used as a standalone name.
What are your thoughts on Margot as a full first name? Does it feel to nick namey or would there be pronunciation difficulties? Also, could Meg and Maggie work as nicknames for Margot? Or, if you have any other name suggestions that might lead to these nicknames let me know!
Thanks!

[name_f]Margot[/name_f] is beautiful! I think it’s familiar enough to not get mispronounced often. Honestly I’d be surprised if [name_f]Margot[/name_f] is short for something else, it’s very well-established as a full name imo.

I would never except [name_f]Margot[/name_f] to be a nickname! If you are worried about pronunciation you could spell it [name_f]Margo[/name_f]!

I’ve known 3 girls named [name_f]Margo[/name_f] and 1 [name_f]Margaux[/name_f], and it was all of their full names, as far as I could tell. I wouldn’t even think [name_f]Margot[/name_f] was a nickname.

I love [name_f]Margot[/name_f] as a full name, I do connect it to [name_f]Margaret[/name_f] but more as an international form than as a diminutive. I definitely think that either [name_f]Meg[/name_f] or [name_f]Maggie[/name_f] could work as a nickname for [name_f]Margot[/name_f], personally I like [name_f]Maggie[/name_f] better.

[name_f]Margot[/name_f] isn’t a nickname-name, it’s very well established!

[name_f]Margot[/name_f] is absolutely stunning! It works better as a full name than a nickname imo and feels a bit fresher and more refined than [name_f]Meg[/name_f] or [name_f]Maggie[/name_f]. It’s one of my favorites right now! So elegant and classy but not stuffy or old ladyish. It’s very on-trend without being trendy. If you love it, go for it!

As for pronunciations, I doubt there would be any issues. It seems most people have seen or heard the name, especially now that it’s made some pop culture appearances! [name_f]Meg[/name_f] or [name_f]Maggie[/name_f] could work as a nickname if you want, but I much prefer [name_f]Margot[/name_f] on its own

I love [name_f]Margot[/name_f], and would never have thought of it as a nickname! I feel like if [name_f]Meg[/name_f] and [name_f]Maggie[/name_f] work as nns for [name_f]Margaret[/name_f], then they can for [name_f]Margot[/name_f] as well. I think it’s a well established name, enough that there won’t be any confusion over pronunciation, imo.

In my head [name_f]Margot[/name_f] is related to [name_f]Margaret[/name_f] the same way [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] is related to Elizabeth–it started as a diminutive form, and I wouldn’t be shocked to hear it as a nn, but these days I’d expect it to be a standalone. I adore both [name_f]Maggie[/name_f] and [name_f]Meg[/name_f] and I think they totally work as nicknames for [name_f]Margot[/name_f]!

[name_f]Margot[/name_f] as a fullname works for me! I taught a little [name_f]Margot[/name_f] [name_f]Margot[/name_f] nn [name_f]Maggie[/name_f] makes sense

margot is my all time favourite name and it definitely works on its own. as others have said i’d actually be very surprised if i found out margot was short for anything

[name_f]Margot[/name_f] definitely works as a full name - doesn’t feel like a nickname whatsoever to me! It might get mispronounced sometimes, but honestly, what names don’t get mispronounced? I think all nicknames for [name_f]Margaret[/name_f] work as nicknames for [name_f]Margot[/name_f], including [name_f]Meg[/name_f] and [name_f]Maggie[/name_f].

To me [name_f]Margot[/name_f] is a total standalone name. I prefer this spelling too - [name_f]Margo[/name_f] looks harsher and [name_f]Margot[/name_f] a bit more delicate.
I think [name_f]Maggie[/name_f] is a totally legit nickname for it, [name_f]Meg[/name_f] as well.

I definitely think of [name_f]Margot[/name_f] as a full name! [name_f]Meg[/name_f] and [name_f]Maggie[/name_f] could definitely be nicknames for [name_f]Margot[/name_f]. If you wanted a longer name, I really like [name_f]Margareta[/name_f]

You could also use [name_f]Margo[/name_f], [name_f]Meg[/name_f], and [name_f]Maggie[/name_f] as nicknames for [name_f]Marigold[/name_f]

[name_f]Meg[/name_f] and [name_f]Maggie[/name_f] work for [name_f]Magda[/name_f], [name_f]Magdalen[/name_f], and [name_f]Magdalena[/name_f] as well

[name_f]Margot[/name_f] is a great stand alone name! It’s chic with attitude to me. I love it.

Margot is a full name. I believe centuries ago it started out in France as a nickname for Marguerite, but it’s been used independently for a long time.

I really like Margot. Most people have heard of Margot Robbie so I can’t imagine there being too many pronunciation issues.
