[name_f]My[/name_f] husband suggested the name [name_f]Maribel[/name_f] to me yesterday. It sounded really beautiful the way he said it . (He pronounced it [name_f]Mare[/name_f]-uh-belle rather than [name_f]Mary[/name_f]-bell). He suggested [name_f]Mary[/name_f] as a nickname.
When I asked where he had heard the name, he said a video game
I tend to prefer shorter girls names, while he prefers longer. For example, he loves [name_f]Cordelia[/name_f] and [name_f]Rosalina[/name_f] while I prefer the short and sweet [name_f]Cora[/name_f] and [name_f]Rose[/name_f].
Possible spellings: [name_f]Marybelle[/name_f], [name_f]Maribelle[/name_f], [name_f]Marabel[/name_f]
I pronounce it marr-ih-bell and think it’s beautiful and underused! Not as crazy about it with the mair-ih-bell prn, but it’s still okay. I definitely would go with the [name_f]Maribel[/name_f] spelling.
Maribel is a lovely name very sweet choice. I think this spelling of [name_f]Maribel[/name_f] is the prettiest just looks simple and elegant. I honestly think [name_f]Maribel[/name_f] is a great compromise as Jonquils between his love for long elegant names and your love of short sweet ones.
I adore the name, but looking at it I thought it was pronounced MAHR-ee-bell. I don’t know if that makes sense, but I thought the first sound would sound like market.
I pronounce it [name_f]Maribel[/name_f] in Spanish it’s pronounced [name_f]Mar[/name_f]-y-belle so I tend to pronounce it like that! I feel [name_f]Marabelle[/name_f] would be a better alternative to the spelling so confusion doesn’t happen!
I think Maribel is lovely and I say it exactly as your husband does (or close: I say the first syllable like the beginning of ‘marry’, which will seem the same to ‘mare’ [I think] for Americans but is a little different for me). Anyway, it’s a beautiful looking and sounding name and an unexpected -bel name.
I pronounce it the way your husband does. I think the way it will initially be pronounced will depend on where you live. I am a US [name_u]Berry[/name_u] and live in a state with a large Spanish speaking population so I pronounce it the way it would be pronounced in Spanish. However in the Southern US, I think you might get more of a [name_f]Mary[/name_f]-[name_u]Bell[/name_u] pronunciation the first time around.
