Thoughts on Maura?

I’m trying to find a sister name to [name_f]Daphne[/name_f], as that will probably be what my husband and I choose if we have a girl (we are TTC right now). I like that it is not popular (I don’t even think it ranked in 2015), but is a name that people would recognize if they heard it. It’s recognizable, but is still fresh. In my experience, I’ve only met one girl with the name [name_f]Maura[/name_f], and that was all the way back in elementary school.

Middle names would probably be:

[name_f]Maura[/name_f] [name_f]Kate[/name_f]
[name_f]Maura[/name_f] [name_f]Josephine[/name_f]
[name_f]Maura[/name_f] [name_f]Emmeline[/name_f]

Thoughts on [name_f]Maura[/name_f]? Thoughts on [name_f]Daphne[/name_f] and [name_f]Maura[/name_f] as sisters?

Other names we are considering: [name_f]Violet[/name_f], [name_f]Leona[/name_f], [name_u]Vivian[/name_u] with [name_f]Daphne[/name_f].

Edit: We would pronounce the name like More-uh. I don’t care for the Mar-uh pronunciation (even though it’s only slightly different). Moira is a no go. Where I live everyone would pronounce it moy-ruh, which is kind of dowdy in my humble opinion.

Maura is also not faring very well with our friends and family. We will keep it in mind, but as it would be the second girl (and the first hasn’t been born yet), we don’t have to worry about it too much. I do love Daphne and Maura together.

SO lovely! [name_f]Daphne[/name_f] and [name_f]Maura[/name_f] are absolutely beautiful together and really compliment one another. From the other names you are considering I really love [name_f]Leona[/name_f] alongside [name_f]Daphne[/name_f]. I know about five women named [name_f]Maura[/name_f], three named [name_f]Moira[/name_f] and one Máire all aged around late teens / early twenties.

[name_f]Maura[/name_f] is sweet. I’ve met a [name_f]Myra[/name_f], which is similar, but never a [name_f]Maura[/name_f].

[name_f]Daphne[/name_f] and [name_f]Maura[/name_f] sound fantastic together. As shosanna said, they really compliment each other.

[name_f]Daphne[/name_f], [name_f]Maura[/name_f], and [name_f]Leona[/name_f] would great to see. I enjoy [name_f]Daphne[/name_f] and [name_f]Leona[/name_f] together as well.

I like [name_f]Maura[/name_f]! I have only heard of one- [name_f]Maura[/name_f] Isles, one of the Rizzoli and Isles main characters. [name_f]Daphne[/name_f] and [name_f]Maura[/name_f] sound like sisters, but I like even more [name_f]Daphne[/name_f] and [name_f]Leona[/name_f].

I think they compliment each other very nicely!

[name_f]Daphne[/name_f] and [name_f]Maura[/name_f] are perfect for sisters!

[name_f]Maura[/name_f] [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] is my favorite from your list.

Thanks for the feedback! My husband loves [name_f]Leona[/name_f] more than [name_f]Maura[/name_f]. I like it enough, but I’m not sold. There’s something so sweet about [name_f]Maura[/name_f] to me, but we obviously aren’t ruling anything out yet.

[name_f]Maura[/name_f] is pretty. I prefer [name_f]Mara[/name_f] ([name_f]Mara[/name_f] [name_f]Emmeline[/name_f] would be my pick), but I think [name_f]Maura[/name_f] & [name_f]Daphne[/name_f] go really well together! I also like [name_f]Leona[/name_f] a lot and [name_u]Vivian[/name_u] with [name_f]Daphne[/name_f].

With [name_f]Maura[/name_f], I like [name_f]Maura[/name_f] [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] best.

[name_f]Maura[/name_f] and [name_f]Daphne[/name_f] are lovely together!

[name_m]Just[/name_m] perfect together!

If you are pronouncing it as “Mor-a”, I don’t really care for it. It sounds like someone asking for more of…“Could ya get me some mora this juice”. I do like “[name_f]Mar[/name_f]-a” though

I like [name_f]Maura[/name_f], and I am very familiar with it because I’m a huge fan of Rizzoli and Isles, with [name_f]Maura[/name_f] Isles being a main character. [name_f]Maura[/name_f] and [name_f]Daphne[/name_f] go very well! My favourite combo is [name_f]Maura[/name_f] [name_f]Kate[/name_f].

[name_f]Daphne[/name_f] and [name_f]Maura[/name_f] are so pretty together!

I’ve always loved [name_f]Maura[/name_f], and also [name_f]Moira[/name_f] and [name_f]Maureen[/name_f] (although it looks a bit dated).

I think [name_f]Maura[/name_f] would go beautifully with [name_f]Daphne[/name_f]. I prefer middle name [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] with it. Another option is [name_f]Moira[/name_f] (more-uh). I know a [name_f]Moira[/name_f] and sometimes she goes by [name_u]Mo[/name_u]. I suppose [name_u]Mo[/name_u] would be a nn for [name_f]Maura[/name_f], too. Not sure if you’re pronouncing that “more-uh” or “mar-uh.”

Either way, I love it.

We would pronounce it like “More-uh” as that’s the only way I’ve ever known the name to be pronounced. [name_f]Mara[/name_f] and [name_f]Moira[/name_f] (lovely in their own right) are not the feel we are going for. A friend of a friend named her baby [name_f]Mara[/name_f] early last year and [name_f]Moira[/name_f] is a bit (no offence to those who love or have the name) dowdy to me. My husband is on the fence about it, as our last name begins with an M, and he isn’t keen on alliteration. I will keep it on my list for sure!

It reminded me of my english teacher her names is [name_f]Moya[/name_f]
