Thoughts on Maverick

I know i’ve been posting a lot of new threads lately but we’re just so indecisive.
Now, what are your thoughts on [name_m]Maverick[/name_m]? What would be the nickname? Any middle suggestions?

Thanks in advance

I love [name_m]Maverick[/name_m]! It’s cool and spunky with great familiarity. That and I love Top [name_m]Gun[/name_m]. [name_m]Just[/name_m] saying… I also know a two year old [name_m]Maverick[/name_m].

Nicknames could Mav, [name_u]Ricky[/name_u], [name_m]Erick[/name_m], it’s a solid name with lots of more mainstream nicknames.
Combos could be
[name_m]Maverick[/name_m] [name_m]Warren[/name_m]
[name_m]Maverick[/name_m] [name_m]Xavier[/name_m]
[name_m]Maverick[/name_m] [name_m]Callum[/name_m]
[name_m]Maverick[/name_m] [name_m]Davis[/name_m]
[name_m]Maverick[/name_m] [name_m]Vincent[/name_m]
[name_m]Maverick[/name_m] [name_m]Gaige[/name_m]
[name_m]Maverick[/name_m] [name_m]Andrew[/name_m]
[name_m]Maverick[/name_m] [name_u]Haven[/name_u]

[name_m]Maverick[/name_m] is definitely modern and boyish. It’s pretty unfamiliar where I live, but I’m in my hometown down South I know it’s much more trendy and popular. My sister is a teacher and it sounds like ‘Mav’ is a common nickname that is used for it - which isn’t far off from [name_u]Max[/name_u] really. Although [name_m]Maverick[/name_m] in full would be fine too, especially if you pronounce it as just two syllables (which is what I do).

I’d go with a one syllable middle name, and maybe use something more classic to balance it out.

[name_m]Maverick[/name_m] [name_u]Jude[/name_u]
[name_m]Maverick[/name_m] [name_u]James[/name_u]

I love [name_m]Maverick[/name_m]! I know an 11 month old [name_m]Maverick[/name_m]. He gets called Mav, Mavs or Mavy.

I like it, but given its meaning I don’t think it will wear well for the adult he will become…

I don’t like this name. To me its just a novelty name, it has its 15 minutes of coolness, because of what the word means, what people associate with a maverick, and perhaps unjustified nostalgia for an era that is poorly depicted in movies and American folklore…but after the initial “wow”, there’s not much to admire or love about it.

I really like it.
I love its meaning and the k sound at the end.
I like it a lot but would be hesitant to use it, because it is getting so popular and I would aim for something far less common like [name_m]Merrick[/name_m]. [name_m]Merrick[/name_m] I predict will shoot up in the charts as well, as Mavericks did quickly.
Still a handsome choice.

I’m not a fan. I actually knew a little [name_m]Maverick[/name_m] & he was a sweetheart but I didn’t care for his name. It’s very ‘try hard’.

I love [name_m]Maverick[/name_m]!

My choice is [name_m]Maverick[/name_m] [name_u]Hudson[/name_u]

It’s a very cool name, not my cup of tea but if you like it then use it! I think a rather short middle name would be best such as [name_u]Jude[/name_u], [name_m]Eli[/name_m] or [name_m]Ethan[/name_m].

What about [name_m]Cormac[/name_m], nickname [name_m]Mac[/name_m]?

It’s very [name_f]Sarah[/name_f] [name_u]Palin[/name_u]

I have a coworker whose son is [name_m]Maverick[/name_m], and it’s so cute!!! She calls him Mav.
Brother’s name is [name_u]Memphis[/name_u]. I love this sib set. Can’t imagine her spunky boys with any other names.

Mav is a great name!

I have to say, I’m not a fan. This is one of those “contemporary virtue” names that seems a bit presumptuous and pretentious-- a fetishization of nonconformity. It makes me think of those bad [name_f]Apple[/name_f] Computer commercials with the Dalai Lama in them.

That said, Mav by itself is a terrific name.
